NFL Betting Lines – Week 2 Recap

December 1, 2010 NFL Football

The underdogs continued to excel against the NFL betting lines in Week 2. Heading into the Monday night game the dogs were 9-5-1 against the NFL lines.

Normally that would be bad news for bettors but two of the most popular bets were Green Bay and Indianapolis and they both covered easily.

It would have been a banner day for the sportsbooks if not for the Buffalo-Green Bay game.  The public really liked the Packers while the sharps liked the Bills.  The professional bettor will almost always take the big points in the NFL but in this game it didn’t work. This game was over before it began as the Bills never had a chance.

Sunday Night Game – The Sunday night game went to the Colts as they blew out the New York Giants.  The books did not do well on that game because of a late TD by the Giants that sent the game over the total. Whenever it is a Sunday or Monday night game the public will normally bet the favorite and the over and parlay the two. It was a winner this past week.

The other big winner for the public was the San Diego Chargers at home against Jacksonville. No one wanted any part of the Jaguars on the road and it was easy to see why.  Denver and Atlanta were two other home teams that won and covered in Week 2. The Broncos routed Seattle and Atlanta humiliated Arizona.

Eagles were the Big Public Loser – If there was one game that simply saved the day for the sportsbooks it was the Philadelphia-Detroit game. Everyone just loved the Eagles at Detroit and it looked like a sure Eagles cover until the Philadelphia defense gave the cover away in the last six minutes, allowing two touchdowns to only win by three points.  The books were also helped when Dallas lost outright at home to Chicago.

Money Line Dogs – Week 2 was a good one if you decided to play some money line underdogs in NFL lines at the Sbg sportsbook. If an underdog covered they usually won the game except for that Lions contest and the Rams at Oakland.  Cincinnati won at home getting points against Baltimore, Miami won at Minnesota as a 5.5 point underdog, Chicago won at Dallas getting a touchdown, Kansas City won at Cleveland getting three points, Pittsburgh won at Tennessee getting six points, Tampa Bay won at Carolina as a four-point dog and the Jets as a home underdog vs. New England. The one push in Week 2 NFL betting lines was Houston laying three at Washington.
