NFC North NFL Draft Odds

NFL Draft odds in 2009 are going to be greatly influenced by teams from the NFC North, particularly the Detroit Lions who pick #1. The Lions are expected to take Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford with the first overall pick in NFL Draft betting. If the Lions don’t select Stafford it would be a surprise and totally change NFL odds.

NFL odds heavily favor the Lions taking Stafford with the #1 overall pick. Detroit has a lot of picks in the draft though and a lot of needs. The Lions also have the #20 overall pick in NFL odds. The Lions did make some solid offseason moves picking up cornerback Anthony Henry, cornerback Philip Buchanon, linebacker Julian Peterson and others so Detroit should be improved. The Lions badly need a quarterback so Stafford would be a solid choice. They also need serious help on the offensive line so taking Jason Smith #1 overall would not be a bad choice. If they wait until the 20th pick in NFL odds to take an offensive lineman then they might take someone like Michael Oher or Eben Britton.

Green Bay has the 9th overall pick in NFL odds. The Packers badly need help on the defensive line. They would probably take Boston College’s  B.J. Raji if he is still on the NFL Draft betting board when the pick at #9.

Chicago traded away their first round pick in the trade with Denver for Jay Cutler so they have to wait until the second round to make a selection. The Bears may look for a receiver in the second round of NFL odds. Someone like Cal Poly’s Ramses Barden could still be on the NFL odds board.

Minnesota has the 22nd overall pick in NFL odds. They still need a quarterback despite trading for Sage Rosenfels from Houston. They probably won’t take one though which means they will look for either an offensive lineman or a wide receiver. It is possible that Hakeem Nicks or Darrius Heyward-Bey could still be on the NFL Draft betting board when the Vikings make their pick.

The NFC North in NFL Draft odds is definitely about the Detroit Lions. The Lions have two first round picks in NFL Draft betting including the first one. Detroit is going to get a lot of attention in NFL Draft odds, and deservedly so.
