New York Jets Team Overview
The Jets were 7-10 last year despite having Aaron Rodgers on the field for just four snaps. The sky is the limit if Rodgers and some of the key pieces around him manage to stay healthy. However, there’s a ton of offshore bookmaker risk with all the injury-prone players New York has accumulated. Thus, the Jets likely have the widest range of outcomes of all the teams in the NFL.
Rodgers will be back, but he’ll turn 41 during the 2024 season. He hasn’t played in two years. So, it remains to be seen if he’ll be effective. Also, it will be determined if he has an adequate supporting cast. The Jets had a golden opportunity to select Brock Bowers at No. 11 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, they passed on him in favor of the third offensive tackle in the class.
San Francisco 49ers Team Overview
Certainly, the 49ers will continue to be one of the better teams in the NFC. For a while, it seemed as though they’d regress this year. But there’s now a legitimate chance that they’ll be even better than they were in 2023. Cause by all of the excellent moves their front office made during free agency.
Previously, the 49ers traded for Jimmy Garoppolo. And then they used the No. 3 overall selection on Trey Lance. Yet the solution to the quarterback problem was spending the final pick in the draft on the position. Brock Purdy took over for an injured Garoppolo in 2022 and never looked back. Consider that he was the MVP frontrunner in the betting markets at one point during the 2023 season. He didn’t win the award, but he led his team to the Super Bowl. Finally, he went toe to toe with Patrick Mahomes before ultimately falling in overtime.
There was some concern that Purdy’s receiving corps would be weakened this offseason. To illuminate, there were trades involving Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. Neither was dealt with. So, Purdy will have his two talented veteran receivers at his disposal once again. Additionally, the 49ers used their first-round choice on Ricky Pearsall. So, the receiving depth will be better in the near term. Meanwhile, George Kittle will continue to serve as one of the best tight ends in the NFL.
Of course, the 49ers offense can’t be discussed without delving into Christian McCaffrey. The All-Pro running back is coming off a terrific 2023 campaign in which he was also one of the MVP frontrunners. However, McCaffrey has a bit of a checkered injury history. Thus, the 49ers will have to hope for more injury luck involving McCaffrey, who had a mostly clean 2023 season.
