Following a miserable 2024, the Giants could soon be headed in the right direction. Especially after delivering a potentially impressive draft class featuring plenty of talent and filling needs.
Abdul Carter, who drew comparisons to Micah Parsons and Von Miller, could be a future game wrecker playing next to Brian Burns and Dexter Lawrence II. Dart isn’t a surefire sports betting QB prospect. But he’ll now get to work with coach Brian Daboll, who has no interest in rushing his development. To show, Daboll named Russell Wilson as the starter. And let’s not overlook the selection of Skattebo, a hard-nosed running back who can also make plays out of the backfield.
Initially, it was thought to be irresponsible of the Giants to reach for a quarterback at No. 6. Especially, cause by the problems they have on their roster. So, the Giants were expected to be better off bolstering the offensive line. Also, they needed upgrades at receiver and running back to give the QB a legitimate chance to succeed.
There were several 2025 NFL futures theories about the Giants trading up for a quarterback. Namely, Cam Skattebo loves to power through contact and finish runs. Specifically, he’ll be a stud if able to improve his stamina. New York used one of the picks acquired from Seattle in a trade. Mbow was drafted as a guard but was selected two rounds later than anticipated. He could also play center or tackle. Meanwhile, Fidone was an excellent seventh-round pick for a team wanting another receiving threat.
Of course, the Giants needed a franchise quarterback. However, their front office is in a lame-duck situation. So, it was thought that the Giants might not worry about it for the 2025 draft until the middle rounds. Given this need, Giants ownership should have replaced everyone. Nevertheless, the Giants have a miserable roster that is lacking talent in many places. They needed to obtain the best player available with every pick.
Everyone expected the Abdul Carter selection. However, Jaxson Dart was a wild card. Indeed, the front office made an odd pick because a losing season will probably mean the firing squad will be called. Thus, the rationale was that ownership took control of the draft. Regardless, it was a mistake to trade up for Dart when the Giants could have traded down.
