Miami Dolphins not a Popular 2018 NFL Betting Selection

2018 Miami Dolphins Futures

It was back to normal for the Miami Dolphins last year.  After making the playoffs in 2016 they reverted back.  Miami posted a 6-10 record for 2017.  Extending the misery of their fans is just two playoff seasons since 2002.  Hence, apathy has set in.  Empty seats abound Dolphin home games.  Most of all Miami was an NFL betting disaster.  They covered just five games for 2017.  In view of that gamblers are avoiding the Fish in droves.  And why not?  Once upon a time this franchise posted the NFL’s only perfect season.  Increasingly, it’s been a steep decline.

Don Shula

There was once a time when Miami was a marquee NFL betting selection.  Likewise, they were among the most respected franchises in any sport.  Additionally, they owned the town.  Encompassing that past glory was Don Shula.  For one thing he retired as the NFL’s all time winningest coach.  In the second place he won two Super Bowls as Dolphin coach.  Most fans are too young to remember the glory days.  Conversely all they know is futility.

New Arrivals

Head coach Adam Gase went 10-6 his first season at the helm.  Yet it proved to be a sportsbook aberration.  As a result of last year’s 6-10 mark roster changes were made.  Some of Miami’s best players are gone.  New arrivals include wide receiver Danny Amendola.  And running back Frank Gore.  Additionally, Daniel Kilgore and Josh Sitton arrive to bolster the offensive line.  However, the most important newcomer may be from the draft.

Minkah Fitzpatrick

Minkah Fitzpatrick was the 11th player selected in the NFL Draft.  Especially relevant is his potential as a game changing defensive back.  Moreover, the Alabama star could change the complexion of the entire unit.

Ryan Tannehill

Beleaguered quarterback Ryan Tannehill has had a star-crossed Miami career.  His career record of 37-40 illustrates that.  Definitely he has been collateral damage for the franchise’s inept leadership.  Consistent with that has been subpar coaching.  Tannehill has also suffered with plenty of bad luck.  For instance, he missed last year with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.  Now Tannehill claims to be ready and 100%.  Further he will be counted upon to show marked improvement.  His career passer rating of 86.5 must increase.

Last Year’s Setback

Certainly, Hurricane Irma played a role in the Dolphins setback last year.  As a matter of fact, Miami started off with a 4-2 record.  But a five-game losing streak gave all of that away.  Additionally, it cost Gase much of the good will earned in 2016.  Balanced against Gase’s efforts is the ownership of Stephen M. Ross.  Even though Ross spends money its to no avail.  Overall his tenure since taking over in 2008 has been lackluster.

Matchup to Watch

Miami is a major NFL betting underdog for 2018.  To begin with New England dominates the AFC East.  A clear difference is ownership.  Ross is simply no Bob Kraft.  To summarize Tannehill’s career has been damaged greatly in Miami.  On the whole there is no reason for optimism.

Look for a five or six-win season at Miami. In brief there is no evidence for expecting improvement.
