Indeed, Miami has never been the same since that offshore bookmaker debacle at Kansas City. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa continues to struggle to stay in the lineup with injury issues that have raised questions about whether he should retire. The Dolphins are entering a make-or-break season. But their offseason maneuvers didn’t seem to match that urgency.

Miami revised Bradley Chubb’s contract to keep him with the team in 2025 after he missed last year due to injury. James Daniels is a fine addition along the offensive line, and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine is a good downfield threat. However, there were hardly any 2025 NFL futures splashes in free agency.

While gamblers like Miami’s first two picks in the draft, Kenneth Grant and Jonah Savaiinaea, they spent a lot of money to move up and select Savaiinaea. In turn, that left the cupboard somewhat bare for the rest of the draft. Miami has a massive need at corner that wasn’t addressed with the looming trade of Jalen Ramsey. Additionally, the Tyreek Hill situation is liable to pop off at any moment. Thus, gamblers don’t feel confident in the Dolphins heading into 2025.

Miami Dolphins Team History

The Miami Dolphins were an expansion team in the American Football League in 1966. Since their inception, they have shared the same AFC East Division with the New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Buffalo Bills.

Miami drafted exceptionally well from the day the franchise began operations. Players such as quarterback Bob Griese and running backs Jim Kiick, Larry Csonka, and Mercury Morris formed a strong nucleus. Wide receiver Paul Warfield later joined the team and became a Hall of Famer. But the most important acquisition was head coach Don Shula.

Shula arrived in 1970 and got the Dolphins into the playoffs that year. By 1971, the Dolphins were AFC Champions. Finally, in 1972, Miami won a perfect 17-0 championship season, the only one in NFL history.

From 1970 through 2001, the Dolphins were perennial playoff contenders. But since 2002, Miami has made the playoffs only four times.
