2025 Miami Dolphins NFL Draft Team Preview

The Dolphins’ season was summed up by Tyreek Hill’s frustration coming out during and after the sports betting season finale. Consider that Hill refused to enter a game against the Jets, then said he was done with the Dolphins. Everything seems like it was smoothed over and was said in a moment of frustration and emotion. Still, it spoke to the Dolphins’ underlying issues and the softness of the head coach.

The Dolphins missed the playoffs, and it was probably due to Tua Tagovailoa missing time because of another concussion. However, if Tagovailoa stayed healthy and Miami made the playoffs, it didn’t seem like a team that was close to the top tier of AFC teams. There are questions about the culture under head coach Mike McDaniel and whether the Dolphins are good enough to compete for the AFC East title. Indeed, there’s a lot to fix in one offseason.

Previously, the Dolphins have been aggressive over the past few years, and their cap issues reflect it. They’re $22 million under the cap. Specifically, Miami has a roster that needs work to make it back to the playoffs. And a lot of work to get into a championship conversation, the 2025 NFL futures cap problems are a big obstacle.

Miami Dolphins 2025 NFL Draft Summary

The top three needs for Miami are S, G, and DL. Cornerback and defensive line could be swapped here — especially if Calais Campbell chooses to return to the Dolphins. But after losing Jevon Holland to the Giants, Miami could use a starting safety. Ifeatu Melifonwu and Ashtyn Davis haven’t been full-time NFL starters. Also, they come with injury concerns.

The Dolphins signed James Daniels to man one of their open guard spots. Yet they still lack a starter on the other side. After releasing Kendall Fuller, the Dolphins also need a starting cornerback opposite Jalen Ramsey. There are several immediate holes, and the team has 10 draft picks to address them.

The Prospect to fill a need outside Round 1 for Miami could be Xavier Watts, S, Notre Dame. Watts is an instinctive ball hawk who had 13 interceptions in his college career. Correlate that he could step right into the starting lineup as a versatile safety and help compensate for the loss of Holland.

Left tackle Terron Armstead isn’t getting any younger. Also, Austin Jackson hasn’t been the answer at right tackle. Perhaps Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill can get back to making plays downfield with better protection in 2025. Miami lost versatile safety Jevon Holland and still hasn’t filled the void left by defensive tackle Christian Wilkins last free agency. Now it’s time for the Dolphins to nail a few draft picks on the defensive side after a few years of relying on veteran additions.
