2025 Los Angeles Chargers NFL Draft Team Preview
Jim Harbaugh’s first season with the Chargers was undoubtedly a success, even if it ended the same way it always seems to. Correlate that the Chargers made the playoffs for the second time in the past three seasons. However, they were rolled in the first round by Houston. The team hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2018 campaign.
While the offshore betting finish wasn’t great, the Chargers are in a very good spot this offseason with plenty of resources available to run it back. Justin Herbert is a top-tier quarterback in the league who threw just three interceptions all season. He’s just missing another true, reliable target or two to take the next step.
Thus, if the Chargers can put the right pieces around him, they can beat anyone. Also, they must re-sign a few key players on both sides of the ball. There’s no 2025 NFL futures reason this team won’t be back in the playoff hunt next fall.
The Chargers reached a one-year, $18 million deal with Khalil Mack. He has been their most reliable pass rusher for years. Most important of all, there was no reason to let him go, considering they have the money to strike.
However, the Chargers are unlikely to re-sign Dobbins, too. He had a career-high 905 yards and nine touchdowns in just 13 games before he went down with an injury. If he’s healthy, he is their best option at running back. And it’s worth giving him another chance on a short deal.
Los Angeles Chargers 2025 NFL Draft Summary
The top three needs for the Chargers are at TE, WR, and DT. The Chargers spent much of last season struggling on offense while their defense allowed the fewest points per game in the NFL (17.7). Specifically, their offensive inefficiencies were on full display in their wild-card loss to the Texans. There, Chargers pass catchers not named Ladd McConkey were almost nonexistent.
Certainly, the Chargers must add another impactful pass catcher for quarterback Justin Herbert this offseason. Whether it be at tight end or receiver, this team has to have a shot at making a deep postseason run.
As for the defensive line, the Chargers lost defensive tackle Poona Ford, one of their most important players this past season, in free agency. Now, they could use a long-term answer in the interior defensive line.
The prospect to fill a need outside Round 1 for LA could be Elijah Arroyo, TE, Miami. Consider that the Chargers’ offense lacks a reliable tight end option. And Arroyo is coming off a breakout season with Cam Ward running the Miami offense. Arroyo has battled injuries in his past. But he’s an explosive route runner with after-the-catch speed.
