December 1, 2010 NFL Football

When you consider NFL preseason betting you may want to take a look at the record of the head coach for each team.

Some coaches really want to win in the preseason while others could care less.  When you consider the records of the coaches you rarely have to worry about the NFL preseason odds since the point spreads are so small.

NFL preseason betting trends do point some things out that should be taken into consideration regarding head coaches.  Did you know that the Arizona Cardinals are 2-10 in the preseason under head coach Ken Whisenhunt?  Arizona will be an interesting team to watch in the preseason since they will be trying to figure out if Matt Leinart is capable of leading them this season.

You may want to bet on the Washington Redskins in the preseason now that they are coached by Mike Shanahan. His teams have a 41-19 record in the preseason. Another team worth taking in the preseason is Jacksonville as head coach Jack Del Rio is 18-10 in preseason games. Miami’s Tony Sparano is very good in the preseason as his Dolphins are 7-1. Other winning coaches include Dallas’ Wade Phillips who is 14-10, Chicago’s Lovie Smith who is 15-11, Carolina’s John Fox who is 18-14, Baltimore’s John Harbaugh who is 5-3, Cleveland’s Eric Mangini who is 10-6, Detroit’s Jim Schwartz is 3-1, Houston’s Gary Kubiak is 9-7, Minnesota’s Brad Childress is 8-7, New England’s Bill Belichick is 23-18, New Orleans’ Sean Payton is 9-8, the Giants’ Tom Coughlin is 12-11, Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin is 10-3, San Diego’s Norv Turner is 12-8, San Francisco’s Mike Singletary is 3-1, St. Louis’ Steve Spagnuolo is 3-1 and Tennessee’s Jeff Fisher is 29-23.

Losing coaches vs. the NFL preseason odds start with Philadelphia’s Andy Reid who is 16-28 in the preseason.  Kansas City’s Todd Haley is 0-4, Denver’s Josh McDaniels is 1-3, Green Bay’s Mike McCarthy is 7-9, the Colts Jim Caldwell is 1-3, Oakland’s Tom Cable is 1-3 and Tampa’s Raheem Morris is 1-3

Break even coaches are Atlanta’s Mike Smith who is 2-2 in the preseason, Cincinnati’s Marvin Lewis is 14-14 and the Jet’s Rex Ryan is 2-2.  Keep in mind some of these records for head coaches as you make your wagers this preseason.
