Kansas City Chiefs See Super Grade for 2025 NFL Draft

At the beginning of the offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs vowed to redeem themselves for a horrible Super Bowl performance. Indeed, the Philadelphia Eagles humiliated the Chiefs. But Kansas City remains a 2025 NFL future Odds favorite for a reason. Since 2019, the Chiefs have had five Super Bowl appearances with three world championships. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid will return with a strong defense. Meanwhile, Harrison Butker is the best kicker in the NFL. Following the 2025 NFL Draft, the Chiefs gained more future market credibility.

2025 Kansas City Chiefs NFL Draft Team Review

  • Round 1: No. 31: Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State
  • Round 2: No. 63: Omarr Norman-Lott, DT, Tennessee
  • Round 3: No. 66: Ashton Gillotte, edge, Louisville
  • Round 3: No. 85: Nohl Williams, CB, California
  • Round 4: No. 133: Jalen Royals, WR, Utah State
  • Round 5: No. 156: Jeffrey Bassa, LB, Oregon
  • Round 7: No. 228: Brashard Smith, RB, SMU

On the whole, the Chiefs authored one of the league’s best drafts this weekend. General manager Brett Veach found a steal in the Royals, who was widely projected as a Day 2 choice. Also, Kansas City nabbed three defenders on Friday. Including Norman-Lott, who should contribute as a rookie on pass-rushing downs next to Chris Jones.

Meanwhile, in the first round, Simmons is the ultimate boom-or-bust pick. To show, he is an incredibly talented left tackle coming off a torn patellar tendon. Thus, if the Chiefs win the gamble, this draft will be an offshore betting grand slam.

In turn, the Chiefs solved their offensive tackle 2025 NFL futures problem, which was caused by Josh Simmons’s fall. The situation feels reminiscent of the Trey Smith pick from 2021.

To summarize, like they usually do, the Chiefs are playing to consensus. They did so by picking up talented fallers such as Royals and edge Ashton Gillotte (No. 66). Both players have the production and athleticism to become quick starters. Indeed, the Chiefs are sticking to the strategy that turned them into perennial Super Bowl contenders. For Kansas City fans and gamblers, the moves inspire confidence.

However, taking defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott (No. 63) feels like a potential failure that could happen. To show, it is difficult to trust a player who isn’t taking a majority of the snaps for his defense. Thus, to take him on Day 2 is suspect. Additionally, linebacker Jeffrey Bassa (No. 156) strikes gamblers as a marginal with limited upside. By contrast, he is not someone who projects to have a role starting anytime soon or even a role on special teams.

Simmons will be an excellent pick at a major position of need for the Chiefs. Especially if he’s able to return to form after recovering from the knee injury that shortened his 2024 season. Meanwhile, Norman-Lott is a bit undersized (6-2, 291 pounds) and must be more consistent to justify his draft slot. Namely, Ashton Gillotte and Williams meet the Chiefs’ needs perfectly for their respective positions.

In conclusion, gamblers think that Royals could have easily been a late third-round pick because of his hands and quickness. Kansas City traded its fifth-round pick to Tennessee for receiver DeAndre Hopkins (41 receptions, 4 TD in 10 games). Next, they were able to acquire another fifth to use on Bassa. He was indeed picked a round or two late, but he complements Nick Bolton.
