Head coaches Todd Bowles and Sean McDermott find themselves in similar situations heading towards their online NFL betting season opener – though they arrived to that situation by different avenues; one by luck and the other by design (and not of the ‘intelligent’ kind). All things considered, though, the Bills’ quarterback room is in much, much, much better place than that of the Jets. Far and away. Something which online sportsbooks reflect.

The low down on McCown

Josh McCown gave Jets fans quite a scare in the preseason finale on Thursday, though it’s hard to pinpoint the moment where fans were more concerned; when he went down, or when he got back up. Either way, the rumours of his demise have been greatly exaggerated.

“I just got the wind knocked out of me,” McCown said per the New York Post. “[Eagles linebacker Joe Walker] just caught me right in a bad spot. It was a good first hit.” The first hit is the best, in fact. According to the Post’s Mark Cannizzaro, “Bowles was smart to play McCown for the two series he played since he’s going be the starter in the regular-season opener in Buffalo and had played in only one offensive possession this preseason – in the opener three weeks ago.” How odd that a guy named Mark is so off the mark. Pray tell, whose decision was it to sit a healthy McCown for the vast majority of the preseason – including the ‘dress rehearsal’ third game? Whose decision was it to “even out” reps during practice? That’s right.

The Jets have lost and failed to cover in five of their last seven meetings with the Bills. The online NFL betting total has gone under in 80% of the Jets’ last five encounters with Buffalo.

The moxie of Nathan Peterman

Meanwhile, Tyrod Taylor and the entire Buffalo Bills organization remain hopeful that the starting QB – who was place on concussion protocol after being sacked by Baltimore Ravens linebacker Matt Judon last Saturday – will be ready to take his spot under center in Week 1 against the Jets. “I feel good about it,” general manager Brandon Beane told WGR 550’s John Murphy Show. “I’ve seen Tyrod, talked to him. He seems like he’s doing well, and I feel like he, in his mind, is on track and ready to play that Week 1. And if he’s out there, he’s the guy we want. He’s the starter.” Failing that, though, the Bills are ready to go with rookie Nathan Peterman who, according to Beane, has “the moxie, the pocket presence, [and] the leadership,” to be a natural leader. Better yet, the Bills don’t owe Peterman $1 million guaranteed.

The Bills have won and covered in four of their last five times hosting the Jets. The online NFL betting total has gone under in two thirds of Buffalo’s last six home games against the Jets.
