Jets Accused of Tampering With NFL Betting Lines

December 1, 2010 NFL Football

NFL betting lines have seen the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers start off the season 2-0.

The football odds may have focused on Mark Sanchez and the Jets but now some of the NFL betting lines focus is on the San Francisco 49ers and holdout wide receiver Michael Crabtree.

NFL betting lines indicate that the 49ers are accusing the Jets of tampering by contacting Michael Crabtree or his agent, Eugene Parker. "The league’s going to handle that internally," San Francisco head coach Mike Singletary said. "We’ll let that play out. I’m going to let the league handle that." The Jets have denied the tampering charge.

Football odds had the 49ers taking Crabtree with the #10 selection in this year’s NFL Draft. It was expected that Crabtree would sign and impact NFL betting lines this season but that has not happened. Part of the problem was the Oakland Raiders who selected Darrius Heyward-Bey with the #7 pick, bypassing Crabtree. That decision doesn’t look very good in NFL betting lines but the fact remains that Heyward-Bey was signed for $38.25 million by the Raiders with $23.5 million guaranteed. NFL betting lines have the 49ers offering $20 million over five years, with $16 million guaranteed. That is substantially less than what Heyward-Bey got and that is major problem as NFL betting lines had it. "We need every football player who can help us win and is supposed to be here," Singletary said. "He’s (Crabtree) a talented guy. Hopefully, it works out that he gets here. I’m never going to be prideful enough to stand back and say we don’t need him."

The deadline for signing Crabtree for San Francisco is getting closer as NFL betting lines indicates. If Crabtree is not signed by November 17th, he can’t play this NFL betting lines season. NFL betting lines have San Francisco holding his rights until the day of the 2010 draft. The 49ers could trade Crabtree’s rights beginning next March as football odds have it, since that is the start of the 2010 year for the NFL.

San Francisco is an underdog this week in NFL betting lines at the sportsbook as they go to Minnesota to face the Vikings. The Jets are favored in football odds this week at the online sportsbook as they host the Tennessee Titans who come into that game at 0-2.
