Indianapolis Colts vs. Houston Texans Odds & Picks – Wild Card Playoffs

Indianapolis Colts vs. Houston Texans - NFL Wild Card Playoffs betting

A clear difference can be seen now compared to last August with both Indianapolis and Houston in regards to the Wild Card Playoffs.  Neither team was considered a hot NFL betting choice to make the playoffs.  Yet both the Colts and Texans are in the post season.  Indeed, it was a transformational season for each of these franchises that were languishing badly just one year ago.  Frank Reich has gained considerable respect after his first year in Indy.  Account of his leadership of a rapid rise from the ashes.  Meanwhile, Houston head coach Bill O’Brien went from the hot seat to coach of the year candidate.

Colts vs. Texans TV coverage:  ESPN

Houston has an NFL betting record of 11-5 straight up, 7-8-1 vs. the odds, and 7-9 under the total.  As a result, the Texans won the AFC South by a single game over Indianapolis.  Bill O’Brien used the combination of a strong running game and defense to coax a seven-win improvement over last year.  In fact, O’Brien is leading the Texans to their third playoff appearance in four years.  Houston ranked eighth for in the NFL for rushing yards and fourth for points allowed.  Additionally, quarterback Deshaun Watson improved to rate 103.1 with 26 touchdown passes.

By contrast Indianapolis has an offshore betting record of 10-6 straight up, 8-7-1 against the spread, and 8-8 on totals.  It follows that the Colts closed strong with nine wins in their last 10 games.  Most important of all Indy overcame a 1-5 start that would have killed off lesser teams.  Correlate the outstanding coaching of Reich to keep the ship on course.  Overall the Colts ranked fifth in the NFL for scoring offense and 10th for points allowed.  Additionally, Reich may go down as the man that saved Andrew Luck’s career.  Luck threw 39 touchdown passes this year.

Houston has been in good form as a home chalk recently.  To illustrate the Texans have paid in four of their last five laying points at NRG Stadium. So too have five of their last seven as home chalks gone over the total.  By contrast the Colts have paid in four of their last six as road dogs.  Seven of their last nine in that situation have gone under the total.

Concurrently the Colts have had the recent edge in their series with Houston.  Indy has paid in three of the last four between these teams.  In addition, four of the last five in this matchup have gone under the total.  Of great concern to Houston backers is that the Texas have not covered their last six home games vs. the Colts.  And four of those six games went over the total.  The road team won and covered both meetings this season.

Matchup to Watch

On the whole this is an even NFL betting matchup. While the Colts are the road dog, they bring momentum and the best player on the field with Luck.  As mentioned earlier they get the money at Houston.
