Important NFL Betting Factors

December 1, 2010 NFL Football

NFL betting is great and exciting every season. Most people are always looking to make more money versus NFL football betting lines each season.

When you get involved in NFL betting there are three key factors that it would be wise to look at before making your final selections.

NFL betting factors that are important to consider when handicapping the games are the coach, the quarterback, and the defense.  The NFL betting gambler that focuses on these three aspects will be on the right track of what is important to consider when looking at NFL football betting numbers. The coach can often make a difference of several games in the victory margins of a team both straight up and against the NFL betting pointspread at the sportsbook.  The better coaches can add tremendous value to a team.

The starting quarterback used to be the most important factor to consider when looking at NFL betting but that is no longer the case in today’s game.  A good quarterback is important for NFL betting and you would certainly rather have money riding on a team with a good QB that can keep you in the game rather than a poor one that can cost you a game but the quarterback is not the overriding NFL betting factor.

Defense has never been more important than in today’s game. A good defense is perhaps the most important part of the equation when you look at NFL betting.  All a sports betting gambler has to do is consider the past Super Bowl champions that didn’t have defense.  That list is pretty short. The teams that have all three of these sports betting factors in their favor will, more often than not, give you an edge as a gambler looking at NFL betting. Every time you consider your wagers this football season be sure and consider defense, coaching and quarterbacks as you put into place your own strategy versus NFL football betting lines.  Don’t get caught up in the offensive stats and forget to look at the defensive statistics.  Just think about how often teams are overvalued because of their offense and conversely, how often other teams are undervalued because of their defense.  Defense wins games in the NFL and sometimes we get so caught up in quarterbacks and scoring we forget that fact when looking at NFL betting.  Don’t do that this season.  Look at defensive numbers and use them in addition to coaching and quarterback factors to win money in NFL football betting.
