Consider that the Texans play in the weak AFC South. Thus, expectations are high that they will bring NFL future Odds value. In the 2025 offseason, the Texans made a series of trades throughout the draft. Hence, that landed them several talented players, including Iowa State receivers Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. Still, it’s hard to look at this offseason as a complete success for the Texans. They already struggled on the offensive line last year. Laremy Tunsil was their only offensive lineman who earned an overall grade above 70.2. Yet they traded him away during a pivotal time.

Following three consecutive seasons out of the playoffs, the Houston Texans have found a winning combination that appears to have considerable upside. In 2023, DeMeco Ryans took over as head coach with rookie quarterback CJ Stroud. Houston is coming off two consecutive playoff campaigns with its dynamic duo of Ryans and Stroud.
Houston had a puzzling sportsbook offseason. Its offensive line struggled throughout the campaign. But its answer to that was trading away left tackle Tunsil, its best lineman, to the Commanders. The Texans did add Cam Robinson in free agency and Aireontae Ersery in the draft to help improve the unit. Also, it would cushion the blow of losing Tunsil, but it’s hard to say they’ve improved along the line.
Meanwhile, they’ve revamped their wide receiver room with Higgins and Noel out of Iowa State. And then Christian Kirk in a trade with the Jaguars. That trio now comes into work behind Nico Collins, and likely foreshadows a long recovery window for Tank Dell. Certainly, those 2025 NFL futures moves are exciting. But if Stroud doesn’t have time to get them the football, their additions will be moot. Extending Hunter and Stingley was a smart and logical move.
Houston Texans Team History
Houston is not a franchise that has lacked regular-season success. The Texans made the playoffs six times from 2011 through 2019. However, their postseason record has been hapless, with no advancement past the divisional round. The Texans were founded as an expansion team in 2002, following the relocation of the Houston Oilers to Tennessee.
Following their stunning 2019 AFC Divisional Playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Texans have never been the same. Houston jumped out to a 24-0 lead early in the second quarter, and many fans and gamblers believed the game was over. Instead, Kansas City scored 41 unanswered points en route to a 51-31 win. The humiliation for the Texans has never been lived down. And it caused the then-head coach and general manager, Bill O’Brien, to lose his mind.
