A Proud History That Clouds the Present

In the beginning, the Miami Dolphins were a 1966 American Football League expansion franchise. Since their inception, they have shared the same AFC East Division with the New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Buffalo Bills.

Miami drafted exceptionally well from the day the franchise opened for business. Players such as quarterback Bob Griese and running backs Jim Kiick, Larry Csonka, and Mercury Morris formed a strong nucleus. Additionally, wide receiver Paul Warfield later came over from Cleveland and was a Hall of Famer.

But the most important acquisition was head coach Don Shula. Shula arrived in 1970 and got the Dolphins into the playoffs that year. By 1971, the Dolphins were AFC Champions. Correlate that in 1972, Miami turned in a 17-0 perfect championship season, the only one in NFL history.

From 1970 through 2001, the Dolphins were perennial playoff contenders. But since 2002, Miami has made the playoffs only twice. Of course, Miami is known for former quarterback Dan Marino re-writing the record book in a sensational career.

Owner Stephen Ross bought the team in 2008 and has been one of the worst owners in the NFL. Following his firing last January, Brian Flores accused Ross of offering to pay him to lose games. Yet Ross has not sued Flores for defamation of character. And heading into training camp, there was no offshore betting news to the contrary.

What is Going On Down There?

Accordingly, there was not a lot of Pro football betting odds specificity regarding the dismissal of Brian Flores. Outside of Flores was said to have been difficult to get along with. Also, there were some vague allegations of Flores clashing with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. But Flores was a winner. His firing perplexes fans to this day.

Tua Tagovailoa was the first-round draft pick of the Dolphins in 2021. Tua’s arrival caused the most excitement in South Florida since the arrival of Dan Marino. So far, Tua has been solid but hardly as dominant as his college days with Alabama. One problem that has plagued Tua throughout his career is injuries. Last season, He missed four games, which may have been the difference in Miami missing the 2021 NFL Playoffs.

Overall, Miami has not yet earned a regular status on prime-time television. Their schedule is highlighted by two prime-time games in 2022. The Dolphins get a Prime Video game at the Cincinnati Bengals in week four. While in week seven, Miami gets an NBC Sunday Night Football date at the Pittsburgh Steelers.
