Now that the fireworks of the NFL Draft are over, the same NFL odds favorites remain. And in the NFC that means the San Francisco 49ers are the favorite to repeat as NFC champions. Of course, the irony is that futures betting is often based on the past. San Francisco is the defending NFC champion. The 49ers are one of the most fundamentally sound teams in pro football. Also, there is a case that they should have beaten the Kansas City Chiefs in February’s Super Bowl. San Francisco snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in that overtime heartbreaker.

Purdy Darn Good But Can He Be Great?
San Francisco QB Brock Purdy remains a hero to millions of football fans. Purdy is forever known as “Mr. Irrelevant” as the last player taken in the 2022 NFL Draft. But sports betting fate forced Purdy to take over as the 49ers starting QB in his rookie season. In turn, Purdy led the 49ers to the NFC championship game in 2022. Following that, Purdy took San Francisco to a late lead against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
Despite his success, Purdy has not shaken off the doubters. Purdy is rated as a solid pro who is not good enough to carry a team to the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Indeed, he is no Patrick Mahomes. But he is a winner. And that is why gamblers have made San Francisco the NFL betting odds favorite.
Gamblers Roar for Lions
Following the 49ers in the esteem of gamblers are the Detroit Lions. Detroit had a breakthrough season in 2023 that ended with a loss in the NFC championship game. And with a relatively young roster, the Lions have plenty of upside. But a lot went right for Detroit in 2023, and the Football Gods may tax the Lions for that luck in 2024.
How ‘Bout the Cowboys?
Of course, the Dallas Cowboys are one of the favorites to win the NFC. “America’s Team” is always in the gambling conversation for success. Dallas is a brand as much as it is a team. Due to the marketing of Hall of Fame owner Jerry Jones, Dallas is constantly in the headlines. Also, under head coach Mike McCarthy, the Cowboys had a strong 2023 regular season. However, playoff disappointment again followed to nearly cost McCarthy his job.
With Bill Belichick on the sidelines this year, there will be constant media speculation about his return. Any coach in trouble is going to hear about the Hoodie taking his job. Certainly, that is going to be the case for McCarthy, who faces a do-or-die 2024 season. Dallas will be the focal point of hot-seat topics all season.
Can Eagles Fly to Previous Heights?
The Philadelphia Eagles remain in the conversation for the NFC championship. Correlate that the Eagles won it in 2022 and led the Chiefs late in that season’s Super Bowl. But Philadelphia was nearly perfect that year and in the first half of 2023 before an epic collapse that outed them as wanting. QB Jalen Hurts is carrying too much of the burden for the Eagles. Philadelphia head coach Nick Siriani has gone from a hero to a man on the hot seat. Siriani was exposed in 2023 without his top assistants, who moved on to NFL head coaching positions.
