2023 Atlanta Falcons Post Draft Team Overview
Atlanta ended up with running back Bijan Robinson at No. 8, linemen on Day 2, cornerback Clark Phillips III to start Day 3, and two seventh-rounders following after that. The online betting goal was clear: Address the lines and add as much talent as possible, wherever possible.
General manager Terry Fontenot said that the Falcons got smart, tough, highly competitive players that fit what they are all about. Specifically, the new players fit Atlanta’s makeup and are versatile, smart football players. So, Fontenot was excited about the outcome of this draft.
The Falcons added some front-end talent and depth pieces in the draft. And that enhanced this group overall. Still, those evaluations are relative. The Falcons don’t have the talent level of some championship contenders. They don’t have dynamic players at every spot. There are areas where the Falcons are left wanting. But that is to be expected after two years in salary-cap hell. And a year with a legit ability to spend. Indeed, this 2023 offseason has felt like a new NFL betting odds beginning.
Certainly, The Falcons made efficient use of their funds. Atlanta spread out their assets across most position groups. Additionally, they capitalized on having a third-round quarterback working on a rookie contract. Also, they showed they don’t care much about perceived position value. Atlanta is paying a guard a record amount and giving significant funds to safety. Also, they spent to draft a running back in the top 10.
The Falcons are better because of all that, as they continue to stack good players and depth pieces to get better overall. Also, Atlanta can better weather injury issues that have caused havoc in the recent past due to a lack of quality down the depth chart.
Now gamblers evaluate the ultimate question: What’s the state of this Falcons roster after the bulk of free agency and the NFL Draft? Accordingly, the Falcons are much better. However, Atlanta is not the best.
There’s plenty left to prove as the team with so much new comes together this spring and summer. But there are some real strengths, relative weaknesses, and legit unknowns.
Fans are excited to imagine what Arthur Smith can draw up with this grouping: Namely, Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, Drake London, Tyler Allgeier, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Jonnu Smith.
All of those players can play several spots. In turn, the Falcons could huddle up in a personnel package and then completely defy convention by lining up to exploit mismatches. Additionally, there is depth to survive an injury issue or two. And that does not include Scotty Miller, who can take the stretch a defense. And then Mack Hollins, fresh off a career year in 2022.
