Detroit Lions Remain Popular 2025 NFL Future Market Choice

It has been an interesting evolution of NFL future odds for the Detroit Lions. Detroit has gone from the outhouse to near the penthouse. This once hapless franchise is tantalizingly close to its first Super Bowl berth. Last season, the Lions fell short of their Super Bowl aspirations. But they still have one of the best rosters in football to make another deep playoff run, potentially. Detroit once again prioritized the trenches, using high draft capital on players who take pride in being physical. Including Tyleik Williams, the rugged run stopper and first-round selection.

Tate Ratledge, the second-round pick, could be in the offshore betting mix for a starting guard job, competing with Christian Mahogany and Graham Glasgow.

However, the Lions missed a 2025 NFL futures opportunity to add help for Aidan Hutchinson. Hutch is the star edge rusher recovering from a leg injury. Alim McNeill is also working his way back from a significant injury. The secondary this season could be defined by how much 2024 draftees Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. improve in Year 2. Additionally, the Lions also have to get on the same page with veteran newcomer Reed, who signed a three-year deal after a successful stint with the New York Jets.

Detroit Lions Team History

Founded in 1932, the Detroit Lions have a lot of history, though most of it is for their ineptitude. Once upon a time, the Lions were a power franchise in the NFL. From 1952 through 1957, the Lions won three NFL championships. Unfortunately for Detroit, that last title in 1957 is not remembered except by its elderly fans. Detroit has never made the Super Bowl since the game’s inception in the 1966 season.

The Lions may not have won many championships, but they have had many memorable star players through the years. Bobby Layne was the Lions’ quarterback in their 1950s era of glory.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Lions had some tough teams that were pretty good, including their 1970 playoff team. Those teams featured big-name stars. Including cornerback Lem Barney, defensive tackle Alex Karras, cornerback Dick LeBeau, linebacker Joe Schmidt, center Ed Flanigan, kicker Errol Mann, and tight end Charlie Sanders.

In later years, the Lions had to of the most exciting running backs in NFL history. Namely, Billy Sims and Barry Sanders electrified fans and gamblers with their exploits. Wayne Fontes coached that Lions team and led Detroit to the playoffs four times from 1991 through 1995.
