Detroit Lions at Chicago NFL Betting

December 1, 2010 NFL Football

NFL betting heavily favors the Chicago Bears on Sunday as they host the Detroit Lions.

It is not the winless Detroit Lions though as Detroit finally got their first football betting win last week against Washington.

NFL betting has Chicago as a 10-point home favorite with a total of 38.5. The Bears have looked good the past couple of weeks in football betting as quarterback Jay Cutler is proving his worth. He led a game winning drive last week at Seattle as the Bears came from behind to win. “I definitely think this is what we’re going to see,” said coach Lovie Smith. “He’s a good player. He’s been a good player. This is Jay’s background. He’s been in situations like that.” Two weeks ago it was Cutler leading the Bears to a fourth-quarter NFL betting win against Pittsburgh. In the fourth quarter of his last two games, Cutler is 14 of 15 passes for 152 yards with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. “This offense is young. We’re all still learning from each other and trying to get some mesh and cohesion going.” Cutler said, “We’re making plays to win ballgames, and that’s a big thing. You look on the film and you see us making mistakes, but when it counts we’re making plays.

The Bears won’t be an automatic win against the Lions in NFL betting. Detroit got their first win last week and they have some good trends on their side in this football betting matchup. The Lions are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games as a road underdog. The Lions are 4-1 vs. the NFL betting number in their last 5 vs. the NFC North. The Lions are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings against Chicago and the Underdog in this series is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

Even though Chicago looks good this season there are a few NFL betting trends that are concerning when laying this many points. The Bears are 4-10-1 in football betting in their last 15 games as a home favorite. The Bears are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 vs. the NFC North.

If you are looking at the NFL betting total there are a few trends to remember. The Over is 20-6 in the Lions last 26 road games. The Under is 4-1 in the Bears last 5 home games but games within the NFC for the Bears go over as 29 of the last 42 have gone over in football betting. The Over is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings between the Bears and Lions.
