The offseason was just how Jerry Jones wanted it to be. His Dallas Cowboys were featured in a major documentary that told the story of Jones’ tumultuous ownership. Last season, the Cowboys suffered through poor coaching and disappointing defensive play. They could be in for more of that in 2025. Especially given the two defensive injuries, as well as the weak coaching decision to put Brian Schottenheimer in charge. Of course, Dak Prescott’s health will be a significant factor. However, Dallas’ overall roster is underwhelming. Hence, the team should be considered an online wagering underdog to even make the playoffs.
Dallas’ defense is known for its impressive pass rush and pretty sack numbers. But the unit as a whole finished 28th in yards surrendered and 31st in points allowed. Micah Parsons missed four games, but that’s not enough to derail the defense so much.
Despite being 28th in yards allowed, the Cowboys finished first in pressure rate. So it’s not like Parsons’ four-game absence meant all that much. Parsons logged 12 sacks, while five other players notched either 4.5 or five sacks. Now that production has gone to Green Bay.
In 2024, the Cowboys were hovering around .500 and appeared to have a chance to reach the playoffs when disaster struck. To illuminate, Prescott was lost for the season with a hamstring injury. He gave way to Cooper Rush even though Jerry Jones surrendered a fourth-round pick for Trey Lance. Correlate that Rush had some good games, but was a failure overall. In sum, Dallas reached only seven victories on the season. Prescott will be back for 2025, but Jones decided that he needed a better backup, so he acquired Joe Milton from the Patriots.
Philadelphia Eagles Team Overview
Namely, Jalen Hurts, who was once benched in favor of Tua Tagovailoa at Alabama, became the MVP frontrunner at various points of the 2022 and 2023 NFL seasons. Hurts was not in the MVP conversation in 2024 because he shared votes with Saquon Barkley. Previously seen as a luxury acquisition in the prior season, Barkley put together one of the best seasons for a running back in NFL history.
Philadelphia lost its offensive coordinator, one of its starting guards, and some key depth pieces on the defensive line. They will also be the hunted, rather than the hunters, in 2025. However, they still have the best roster in the NFL, so they should be considered the favorite to win Super Bowl LX.
