Cowboys and Redskins Renew Bet on NFL Rivalry for First Place

Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins

To begin with each season Dallas is a perennial bet on NFL favorite to win the NFC East.  Even when it’s not necessarily justified.  For one thing there is a reason the Cowboys are called “America’s Team.”  More emphatically few teams in any sport draw more betting action than Dallas.  Consistent with that is their recent uptick in performance.  In the same way Washington is playing improved football lately as well.  In particular the Redskins defense is among the best in the NFL.  As a result, they lead Dallas by a half game in the NFC East.

Washington Redskins

Washington has a bet on NFL record of 3-2 straight up and vs. the odds.  Additionally, the Redskins have gone under the total in three of five games.  Washington has won two of their last three with two of those games also going over.  Last week the Redskins scored a 23-17 home payout over Carolina.  Washington ranks 24th in the NFL for total offense but fifth for total defense.

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas has an offshore bookmaker record of 3-3 both straight up and against the spread.  Account of four of the Cowboys games have gone under the total.  Last week Dallas destroyed Jacksonville 40-7 for an easy home cover.  The Cowboys have won and covered two of their last three games with two overs.  Dallas ranks 29th in the NFL for total offense but fourth for total defense.  Thus, the similarities in strengths with the Redskins.

Dak Prescott

Certainly, both teams have struggled on offense.  Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott has an 85.5 rating with seven touchdowns and four interceptions.  Counter to that is new Redskins quarterback Alex Smith.  While Smith has a better rating of 91.9 he only has six TD passes.

Stats to Consider

Overall the Cowboys have been a weak road dog recently.  For example, Dallas has covered just five of their last 14 games as a pup away from home.  Nine of their last 11 in that situation have gone under the total.  Balanced against that is the fact that Washington has been a reliable home chalk.  To show the Redskins have paid in six of their last 10 in that situation.  And six of their last seven laying points at home have gone under the total.

Team vs. Team

Dallas has had the edge recently in their series with the Redskins.  To illuminate the Cowboys have paid out in five of their last seven games against Washington.  Six of those seven games also went over the total.  At the same time Dallas has won and covered four consecutive games at Washington.  Three of those four games went over the total.

Matchup to Watch

This great rivalry is quite even as far as matchup strengths and weaknesses.  Though this may be true it leads to consideration of the underdog.  As mentioned earlier Dallas is a strong and proven Bet on NFL value at Washington.

Cowboys vs. Redskins Bet on NFL Picks

To conclude the Cowboys defense and results at Washington make them a valuable and capable dog.
