When Haslam bought the Browns in 2012, there was hope that his unlimited resources could turn the Browns into a consistent winner. Instead, the Browns rank alongside the Carolina Panthers and New York Jets as one of the worst franchises in professional football.

2025 Cleveland Browns Overview
At the onset of 2025 preseason preparations, the Browns sports betting circus could be even more of a clown show, Cause by the arrival of Shedeur Sanders. The Browns made several splashes during the draft. To illustrate, they acquired a second 2026 first-round pick (by trading back three spots in the first round). Late on they drafted Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round.
Of major concern is that the wide receiver position outside of Jerry Jeudy remains a 2025 NFL futures issue for the Browns. Cleveland has not made significant improvements to that area of their team this offseason.
However, the Browns have added much-needed depth to their offensive and defensive lines, led by the first-round pick of Mason Graham. Also, Cleveland may have found an adequate replacement for Chubb in second-round pick Quinshon Judkins. Judkins rushed for a whopping 45 touchdowns during his three seasons in college.
Specifically, the quarterback continues to be an enigma for the Browns. Cleveland will be in a prime position to select a top quarterback in next year’s draft. Especially after picking up another first-round pick in the trade that moved the Jaguars up to the No. 2 spot. This season, the Browns have several options for QB1. At this point, it appears to be a two-man race between former first-round pick Kenny Pickett and 40-year-old Joe Flacco. Correlate that rookies Gabriel and Sanders are competing for one of the backup spots.
In their first NFL season, the Browns won the championship. Subsequently, Cleveland played in the NFL championship game for the next five years, winning it twice in the final two years.
By the early 1960s, the club had grown stale under Paul Brown. In 1962, Brown was fired by new owner Art Modell. Following their 1964 NFL championship, the Browns were a perennial contender for most of the next three decades. However, they never made the Super Bowl after the 1966 AFL-NFL merger. Finally, in 1995, Modell relocated the original Browns to Baltimore, renaming them the Ravens.
The second iteration of the Browns was born in 1999 as an expansion team. Since their return to the NFL, the Browns have had only three playoff appearances.
