The Cleveland Browns are 80-1 long shots in 2010 NFL preseason betting to win the Super Bowl but the Browns are expected to be better this season.
They are 18.5 to 1 to win the AFC North in NFL preseason lines. Cleveland begins their preseason schedule at Green Bay on August 14th.2010 NFL preseason betting on the Browns continues in Week 2 when they host the St. Louis Rams. The Browns are at Detroit in Week 3 and then host the Chicago Bears in their preseason finale. The preseason will be a very important time for the Browns as they attempt to change the culture of the team. President Mike Holmgren has made a number of changes that should make the Browns a better team in 2010.
Cleveland played very poorly last season until the last few weeks. In the last month the Browns won games against Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Oakland and Jacksonville. That streak saved the job of head coach Eric Mangini. Now he will have to build upon that streak.
Cleveland is turning over the quarterback job to Jake Delhomme and he figures to be better than Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson. If Delhomme can’t get the job done then the Browns are in trouble since they have only Seneca Wallace and rookie Colt McCoy. The Browns will look to run the ball with Jerome Harrison and take the pressure off of Delhomme. Cleveland needs to run the ball well because they have no receivers. Josh Cribbs is better as a running back while Mohamed Massaquoi led the team in catches last season. The Browns do have a good offensive line but unless they prove they can throw the ball, opposing defenses are going to stack up against the run.
The Browns defense is really not very good. They have a below average defensive line, no name linebackers and an overrated secondary. The team did acquire cornerback Sheldon Brown from Philadelphia and they took Joe Harden in the first round so perhaps the Browns can be improved in the secondary. The Browns do have good special teams led by Cribbs and kicker Phil Dawson.
NFL preseason lines will likely list the Browns as underdogs in at least two and perhaps three of their preseason games and until Cleveland proves they can win consistently they will continue to receive points.
