At the onset, Week 1 begins with the traditional Thursday night opener on NBC and it is a headliner. The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Baltimore Ravens in a rematch of the 2023 AFC championship game. Last year, the Chiefs defeated the Ravens 17-10 as 4.5-point road dogs. Hence, the Chiefs went on to win their second consecutive Super Bowl. Since 2019, Kansas City has beat the NFL odds for three Super Bowl championships. Week 1 Overview
Namely, Patrick Mahomes has led the Chiefs to four Super Bowls, winning three. Along the way, he has redefined the quarterback position. Jackson has had phenomenal regular season success but it has not translated in the playoffs. Correlate that Baltimore has not returned to the Super Bowl since 2012-13. John Harbaugh defeated his brother Jim and the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 on February 3, 2013.
Certainly, the Chiefs and Ravens will be a ratings and betting activity bonanza. The matchup will be a great indicator of where Baltimore and Kansas City stand regarding the 2024 campaign. The Detroit Lions will host the Los Angeles Rams in a rematch of a 2023 playoff game held in Detroit. Last year, the Lions prevailed.
On ESPN and ABC Monday Night Football, the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers will host the New York Jets. Of course, the 49ers are coming off an overtime loss to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
