With this win, the Broncos 6-1 secured their 1st place in the AFC West over San Diego Chargers 5-3, who now have lost 2 consecutive games.

The first quarter of the game was scoreless for both teams with the Charges scoring 7 points, while the Broncos scored 14. In the 3rd the Chargers again scored 7 points, and the Broncos 14 points. Then in the final 4th quarter the Chargers scored another 7 points, and the Bronco scored 7 points also, thus the final score was 35 Denver and 21 San Diego.

In reality Chargers QB had a good game against the Broncos, but with his team trailing by 21 points in the 2nd half, but needed some support from other team members to help to elevate the other players on the team. As the team faced, what most think is the best team in the AFC, the Chargers needed to be at their best, but apparently they were not!

The offensive leaders for the Chargers were QB Rivers, who completed 30 of his 41 passes for 252 yards and 3 touchdowns, and was intercepted 2 times and sacked 2 times. RB’s Oliver & Rivers combined for 14 carries for 53 yards. Receivers Allen & Floyd combined for 13 receptions for 131 yards with Allen scoring 1 TD.

The Broncos leaders on offense were QB Manning, as he completed 25 of his 35 passes for 286 yards for 3 touchdowns with no interceptions and no sacks. RB’s Hillman & Thompson combined for 27 carries for 133 yards, while Receivers Sanders & Thomas had 17 receptions for 225 yards with Sanders scoring 3 touchdowns.

As the game moved along, it seemed like the chargers were going to make a move to win the game, as each time the Broncos scored, the chargers followed with 80 yards drive that ended in touchdowns by Receiver Gates the 1st a 4 yard reception, and the 2nd a 10 yard reception with 9 ½ minutes to go in the game making the score 35-21. But as time expired the Chargers were unable to muster any additional points. In the game Gates became San Diego’s all time receiver with 9,610 yards as he broke the record of Hall of Famer Lance Alworth, who set the record previously of 9,584 yards receiving.
