Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs

At the onset of the 2018 season Denver coach Vance Joseph was on the hot seat.  And team president John Elway was under considerable fire.  Of major concern has been the Broncos major dip since Peyton Manning’s retirement that followed the 2015 season championship.  For Joseph he has the unenviable task of following Gary Kubiak, the Super Bowl winning coach.  And last year’s 5-11 rookie campaign was a catastrophe.  Elway brought Joseph back thinking it was unfair to blame him when he lacked a quarterback.  But with Case Keenum under center Denver remains in the red with NFL bets.

Denver Broncos

Denver enters this game at KC with a record of 3-4 straight up and 2-4-1 against the spread. Further, the Broncos have gone under the total in four of their games.  Last week the Broncos destroyed Arizona 45-10 as one-point road chalks.  In view of the sluggish start is the play of Keenum.  The former Viking has a rating of 81.0 with a disturbing 8/9 touchdown to interception ratio.  Correspondingly the Broncos rank 19th in the NFL for scoring offense and 22nd for total defense.  Last week’s win did snap a four-game losing streak.

Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City leads the AFC with a record of 6-1. Most important of all the Chiefs have paid out in all seven of their games.  KC has gone over the total four times this year.  Led by new starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes the Chiefs rate best in the NFL for scoring offense.  Balanced against that is a defense ranked dead last overall in the league.  On the whole Mahomes has been sensational.  Consider his 114.0 rating with 22 touchdowns and just five interceptions.  Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce are both averaging over 14 yards per catch.

Stats vs. Stats

Denver has fallen like a rock with NFL bets as a road dog.  Consider the Broncos have lost eight of their last nine vs. the odds in that role.  Five of their last eight as road pups have gone under the total.  Balanced against that is the Chiefs strong wagering value as a home chalk.  Kansas City has covered six of their last seven laying points at Arrowhead Stadium.  And seven of their last eight as home chalks have gone under the total.

Team vs. Team

Kansas City has dominated this sportsbook series as of late.  In fact, the Chiefs have won and covered their last six games against the Broncos.  Additionally, just one of the last seven games between these teams have gone under the total.  At Arrowhead the Chiefs have won and covered their last two against Denver.  The last three games in KC between these teams have gone over the total.

Matchup to Watch

As mentioned earlier all of the trends in this matchup point towards the Chiefs.  In like manner the KC has paid like a clock this year and against Denver.  In fact, the Chiefs covered NFL bets at Denver in a 27-23 win earlier this year.  In contrast the Broncos lack the firepower to hang in this one.
