Monday Night Football saw the San Francisco 49ers now 4-2 (2nd NFC West) visiting the Saint Louis Rams, now 1-4 (4th NFC West). The game was played at the Edward Jones Dome in Saint Louis, Missouri and was seen on ESPN TV. Let’s recap all of the action from this come-from-behind win by San Fran.
The 49ers came from behind the Rams 1st quarter lead of 14 -0, but then scored 31 points in the following 3 quarters to win the game 31-17 as 49’er QB Kaepernick threw for 3 touchdowns.
The game statistics indicate that the 49ers had the offensive edge in the game as they had 17 first downs on 66 offensive plays totaling some 432 yards with 343 passing and 89 rushing and 1 turnover. The Rams had 19 first downs on 71 plays of 309 yards with 216 passing and 93 rushing yards and 1 interception.
The Rams QB Davis completed 21 of 42 passes for 236 yards with 1 TD and 1 interception. RB’s Mason & Cunningham had 12 combined carries for 61 yards with Cunningham scoring a TD. Their Receivers Cook & Britt had 7 receptions for a combined 113 yards and no scores.
49er QB Kaepernick completed 22 of his 36 passes for 343 yards and 3 touchdowns with no receptions. RB’s Gore & Kaepernick had 19 carries for a combined total of 75 yards while Receivers Boldin & Lloyd had 8 receptions for a combined 174 yards and Boldin had a TD and Lloyd’s TD reception was for 80 yards.
In the first quarter of the game the 49ers defense struggled early trying to become familiar with the plays and back-up QB Austin who was calling the signals for the Rams. Finally, the 49ers defense adjusted, and for the game sacked Ram’s QB Davis 5 times, which stalled the Rams defense and gave the 49ers QB Kaepernick to get his game rolling, to win the game 31-17 Monday night.
At the start of the game it, appeared that Saint Louis was set for an upset, and for the first 29 minutes of the game, it sure seemed possible. Then the 49ers turned up their offense and the Rams could no longer keep up! Plus the 49ers defense stepped up and with less than a minute to go in the game, DB Johnson intercepted the Rams QB and returned it for the final TD and sealing the game win.
With very few minutes left in the game, and the Rams trailing by a TD or 7 points. QB Davis striving to tie the game then threw a pass intended for his receiver which was intercepted, and returned for a 20 yard TD. That score for the 49ers killed the Rams chances to comeback and win the game that they had taken an early lead in.
The Rams 1-4 in week 7 play at home against Seattle Seahawks 3-2 (3rd AFC West) on Sunday, October 19th and on Fox TV. The early favorites in the game are the Seahawks at – 6 ½ (-115) with the Ov/Un at 43 ½ and the ML -280. The 49ers 4-2 play at the Denver Broncos 4-1 (2nd AFC West) also on Sunday at 8:30 PM on NBC TV, with the game played at the Sport Authority Field in Denver. The Broncos are favored at -6 ½ (-115) with Ov/Un 45 and the ML -280.
