At the onset of the 2023 season, the New York Giants were a hot property with the NFL Betting Odds. In 2022, then-rookie head coach Brian Daboll partnered with quarterback Daniel Jones to gain an unexpected road wild-card win over the Minnesota Vikings. Daboll and Jones were celebrated for seemingly flipping the script. Indeed, the New York Giants were declared to be “back.” Instead, New York reverted to its losing ways in 2023. 2024 New York Giants Preview
At the onset, Joe Schoen took over as general manager of the Giants knowing of a long rebuilding process. Then, the 2022 season was an offshore bookmaker shocker. New York went 9-7-1 and even won a playoff game. Hence, they looked like they were further along than he thought they could be. So the next NFL football Betting offseason, Schoen admittedly tried to “expedite” the process. And then the 2023 Giants went 6-11 and fell flat on their faces.
Now, where are they? That’s a really good question as they enter Year 3 of the regime of Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll. New York should be ready to contend. Consider they’re a year removed from signing quarterback Daniel Jones to a $160 million contract. But their actions, such as trying to trade up for a new franchise quarterback, have made it seem like the rebuilding is ongoing.
The expectations are low for this mediocre team. But the pressure is on Schoen and Daboll to get back to where they were a year ago. They have a roster filled with far too many holes. And if their moves don’t start paying off quickly, the next phase of the rebuilding project may have to be done by somebody else.
To summarize, any analysis of the Giants’ 2024 season starts and ends with asking if Daniel Jones is any good. If he is, there is at least a chance that they could be a playoff contender this season. But only if Nabers is as good as advertised and the offensive line doesn’t continue its decade-long futility.
Still, it’s a lot to ask, though. The Giants need Jones healthy and good the offensive line fixes to work. Nabers is to be a rookie star, and the pass rush is to explode. New York needs all of that and probably more. And that is just to get to .500 and have a shot at the playoffs. Accordingly, their ceiling isn’t much higher than that.
