At the beginning of Chip Kelly’s return to college football UCLA fans were joyous. By contrast those same fans checked out for basketball season weeks ago. In this situation Kelly has discovered the harsh reality that will be a massive Bruins rebuild. USC was considered the top betting on college football choice to win the Pac 12 South. UCLA Bruins
UCLA is 2-8 straight up and 4-6 vs. the odds with a 5-5 split on totals. Last Saturday the Bruins lost a tough 31-28 decision at Arizona State. It was their third consecutive loss. In the same way Kelly’s offense has been a major disappointment. Overall UCLA ranks 96th for total offense and 117th for scoring. Along the same lines their defense ranks 104th overall.
Stats to Consider
Despite their problems USC has been a reliable betting on college football road chalk. For example, the Trojans have paid in six of their last eight in that role. Just one of their last 13 as away favorites have gone over the total. Balanced against that is UCLA’s poor performance as a home dog. The Bruins have paid in just one of their last eight when getting points at the Rose Bowl. Additionally, just one their last six in that situation went over the total.
