Top Big 12 Betting on College Football Prospects for 2019

2019 Big 12 Conference Spring Football

Namely the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns have set themselves apart as the top choices to win the Big 12 Conference in 2019. Oklahoma’s betting on college football status as a favorite is understandable based on their two consecutive playoff appearances. Of major concern is the man that will take over for Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Kyler Murray. Former Alabama starter Jalen Hurts is slated for the job. Meanwhile Texas is set at the QB position with sophomore Sam Ehlinger.

Texas Longhorns

At the onset of his arrival Texas coach Tom Herman was expected to quickly jumpstart the program.  While the rebuild has been more difficult than anticipated Herman seems to have the program poised for a major leap in 2019.  Certainly, the Horns long term betting on college football prospects look good with the nation’s third ranked recruiting class locked up last February.  Most important of all Sam Ehlinger has solidified a quarterback quandy that has plagued this program since Colt McCoy graduated a decade ago.

Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma will be one of the most fascinating teams to watch in the entire country.  First, you have one of the most brilliant offensive minds in college football in head coach Lincoln Riley.  Second, the arrival of Jalen Hurts helps take away the sting of losing Kyler Murray.  Although Hurts lost his starting job last year with Alabama, he proved his offshore betting value when he rallied the Crimson Tide past Georgia for a win in the SEC Championship game.  Additionally, new defensive coordinator Alex Grinch has arrived to end OU’s weakness on that side of the line.

Namely one coach has emerged as a superstar in the Big 12. Matt Campbell was considered a fool for taking the Iowa State job.  However, he has had the last laugh with back to back eight-win seasons.  Now Campbell has added to his momentum with the best recruiting class he has produced in his four seasons on the job.  Of major concern for Cyclone backers was their failure to get the money in the final five games of the 2018 season.

Now history will definitely be made in Manhattan, Kansas this year.  Hall of Fame head coach Bill Snyder has finally retired.  Following the legend will be Chris Klieman out of 1AA North Dakota State where he won four national championships.  Recruiting has slipped lately at KSU and Klieman will be charged with jumpstarting the program.  Of great concern is the historic fact that Snyder was the only man that could win consistently in the Little Apple.

Matchup to Watch

On this occasion the Big 12 is looking more like the Big Two. Indeed, it’s unlikely that anyone else besides Oklahoma and Texas will emerge as betting on college football alternatives. In comparison to the rest of the teams, the Oklahoma State Cowboys should rebound after a disappointing 2018 season. As a mater of fact the Pokes could be a spoiler. OSU Head coach Mike Gundy is at his best when ignored and counted out.
