Clemson Tigers vs. Pittsburgh Panthers

Tigers Set to Maul Pitt in ACC Bet on College Football Showdown!

A clear difference exists between the Clemson Tigers and the rest of college football.  Head coach Dabo Swinney’s team is considered to be one of the few squads that could potentially beat Alabama.  Likewise, the Tigers are coming off consecutive playoff seasons.  In the same way they are one of the most complete teams in the land.  Contrarily Pittsburgh had to overcome a terrible start to win the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division.  However, it was something of a default title of a weak division.  As a result, Clemson is a big Bet on College Football favorite.

Clemson Tigers

Clemson has a Bet on College Football record of 12-0 straight up, 6-6 against the spread, and 6-6 for totals.  Head coach Dabo Swinney has emerged as one of the top coaches in the country. On the whole it has been quite a climb for Swinney.  After taking over as interim coach and suffering through a couple of bad seasons he recruited well.  Hence the wins started to come culminating with the 2016 national championship.  This year the Tigers ran away with the Atlantic Division title.  Last week Clemson bombed South Carolina 56-35 as 25.5-point home overlays.

Pittsburgh Panthers

Pitt has a sportsbook record of 7-5 both straight up and vs. the odds with seven games going under the total.  Last week Pitt was caught peaking ahead in a 24-3 loss at Miami.  Most of all the Panthers four game winning and payout streak was snapped.  Yet Pitt has come a long way from its 51-6 loss to Penn State in week two.  Head coach Pat Narduzzi is yet to mold the Panthers in the tough defensive oriented personality he wants.  Compared to previous Pitt coaches he is yet to move the needle any more than his predecessors.

Stats to Consider

Pitt is woefully outmanned according to the respective team metrics.  To show the Panthers rank 80th in the nation for offense and 71st for points allowed.  Balanced against that is Clemson rankings of third for total offense and fourth for points allowed.

Team vs. Team

At the onset everyone recalls two years ago when Pitt scored a 43-42 win at Clemson.  Despite that setback the Tigers went on to win the national championship.  More emphatically gamblers should not get too wrapped up in that epic upset.  So too will the Tigers be ready to rumble knowing what is possible.  Pitt has been a decent road betting value.  In fact, they have lost only seven of their last 20 vs. the odds on the road.  Counter to that is Clemson’s strong mark of 7-3 vs. the line away from home.

Matchup to Watch

Certainly, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is the Bet on College Football matchup difference maker.  Lawrence has a 156.8 rating with 22 touchdowns and four interceptions.  Furthermore, Travis Etienne ran for 1307 yards and 19 touchdowns.
