San Diego State Meets Ohio in NCAA Football Betting Bowl Matchup

San Diego State and Ohio are two of the top examples of how good Group of Five football can be.  Along those same lines the Aztecs and Bobcats have proven their merits of having a veteran head coach.  Contrarily while many programs are going for hot shot young wizards San Diego State and Ohio are well led by battle tested veterans.  Frank Solich of Ohio and Rocky Long of San Diego State have taken their programs to new NCAA Football betting heights.  Indeed, both teams were never regular bowl squads until these coaches took over.

San Diego State Aztecs

San Diego State has an NCAA Football betting record of 7-5 straight up, 3-9 against the spread, with 4-8 under the total.  That was good for a fourth-place finish in the Mountain West Conference West Division.  Of major concern was a very weak finish by the Aztecs.  SDSU lost four of their last five games.  Most important of all they covered only one of their last seven matchups.  An offense that ranks 113th in the nation for scoring was the major culprit.  By contrast the Aztec defense ranked an impressive 21st in the country.

Ohio Bobcats

Ohio has an online wagering record of 8-4 straight up, 7-5 vs. the odds, and 7-4-1 over the total.  Accordingly, the Bobcats finished second in the Mid-American Conference East Division.  Ohio was a strong offensive team that ranked eighth in the country for rushing and tenth for scoring.  Defensively the Bobcats ranked a mediocre 66th in the nation.

Stats to Consider

Specifically, Ohio running back AJ Ouellette had the big year.  Ouellette ran for 1142 yards and 6.2 yards per carry with 12 touchdowns.  While Ohio was not a great passing team quarterback Nathan Rourke was effective with 22 TD passes.  Rourke posted a 158.3 rating and averaged 8.79 yards per attempt.

Team vs. Team

Late, Ohio has slipped as a road favorite wagering value.  The Bobcats have covered just one of their last five when laying points away from home.  And just two of their last seven as road chalks have gone under the total.  Counter to that is San Diego State’s good value as an away dog.  For example, the Aztecs have covered the spread in four of their last five in that situation.  Six of San Diego State’s last seven as road pups have gone under the number.

Matchup to Watch

Ohio had an impressive NCAA Football betting season and demonstrated solid fundamentals.  To be exact the Bobcats are one of the most consistent programs in the country.  In like manner they match up well with San Diego State.  Certainly, Ohio has the superior offense and ground attack.  As mentioned earlier San Diego State is limping into this game.  To conclude Ohio is playing the better football.
