Recap – Top 5 NCAA Football Teams in Week 2 Betting

With the NCAA Football Week 2 history, let’s take a look at the Top 5 teams and how they made out with their second games of the 2014 NCAA Football  season. Normally, the universities plan their schedules so that their first or second games are with unranked teams to give them an opportunity to see how their players have progressed through practices and any preseason NCAA Football games.

Four of the Top Five teams played unranked opponents, while the #3 Oregon Ducks played the #8 Michigan State Spartans. The only team in Week 2 to shut out their opponent was the #2 Alabama Crimson Tide — they beat the Florida Atlantic University Owls 41-0.

NCAA Football Florida State Beats Citadel Bulldogs

The No. 1 team, the Florida State Seminoles played their second game of the season, and first home game of the season with the unranked Citadel Bulldogs. The opening NCAA Football odds for this game had FSU at -57 ½. That was an over estimate by the odds makers as it was evident that the Seminoles once in the lead would play freshman and untested varsity players for them to gain the needed experience, in the team’s goal of repeating the national championship.

The win for FSU was their 18th consecutive victory and their Heisman Trophy winning QB Winston passed for two TDs and some 256 total yards and the Noles beat the Bulldogs 37-12.

QB Jameis Winston for FSU threw to ten different players in his time in the NCAA Football game and seven players rushed for yardage in the game. He completed 22 of his 27 passes as the offense scored TDs on all four of his first half drives and in the third quarter two field goals on his two drives giving the Seminoles a 34-0 lead and then he went to the bench.

For the Bulldogs their QB Miller completed just 3 of his 11 passes totaling 46 yards and one TD and he accounted for 61 of the 322 total offensive yards. Eight different players carried the ball for the Citadel in their triple option offense and gained the balance of their offensive yardage.

When Florida State had their first team in the game they drove up and down the field and did not face much resistance. That was why the Citadel Coach Houston said Florida State showed no weaknesses as they have about everything, with size, speed and depth and without a doubt the best team the ever played.

The FSU defensive starters shutout the Bulldogs, then got hit with a string of injuries that they hope are not serious as a defensive tackle and replacement were injured as was their starting nose guard, and their defensive roster includes seven freshman.

Now the Seminoles 2-0 will play Clemson on Sept. 20th in Tallahassee while the Citadel 0-2 travels to Charleston Southern 2-0 for their next NCAA Football game.

NCAA Football Crimson Tide Shuts Out Florida Atlantic Owls

The No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide routed Florida Atlantic and the game was stopped due to lightning with 7:53 left in the game. The media said that the lightning did a better job of stopping the Tide than the FAU Owls did. The opening odds on Alabama were -39.

In this NCAA Football game both Tide QB’s got a shot at trying out for the starting job, and now it’s still not clear who it will be as QB Simms had a good outing completing 11 of 13 passes for 2 TDs and some 214 yards, but did fumble a ball on the goal line, while QB Coker was 15 of 24 for 202 yards a 1 TD. To their WR Cooper it did not matter who was at QB as caught 13 passes for one TD and amassed some 189 yards. For the QB’s that is first time two Tide QB’s threw for over 200 yards in the same game.

The FAU Owls gained 145 yards to Alabama’s 620 total yards. In their first game they allowed Nebraska to amass some 784 yards in their 7-55 loss. The consolation that FAU had was a $1 million payday, for each of their first two games.

The Owls QB Johnson did not play as he was injured against Nebraska and his backup Hankerson was 12 for 19 and 88 yards and the Owls were playing many freshmen against some of the best players in college football at Alabama.

The Crimson Tide 2-0 plays Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles 1-1 on September 13th while FAU Owls 0-2 will play the Tulsa Green Wave 1-1 also on the 13th of September. The Alabama fans who Bet on College football are looking for favorable lines on the Southern Miss game at their Online sportsbook when the Tide travels to Mississippi. The opening line for the Tide is -47.

Oregon Ducks Destroy Michigan State Spartans

The No. 3 Oregon Ducks played the No. 7 Michigan State Spartans and the opening betting line for Oregon was set at -11, and the Ducks covered the spread beating the Spartans 46-27.

It’s hard to believe that in the third quarter of the game Oregon was behind the Spartans 27-18 and the Ducks QB Mariota led his team to scoring 4 TDs and the 46 -27 win. He passed for three TDs in the game and 318 yards which certainly makes him an early Heisman possibility. He threw his 69th TD pass in this game which sets an Oregon record.

This loss by the Spartans broke an 11 game win streak for the reigning Big Ten Champs beating Ohio State 34-24 and Rose Bowl winners beating Stanford 24-20, and in 2013 they were 13-1. Also, the Spartans had the second best defense in college football last season, but in this game the Ducks high scoring offense and the heat that was close to 100 degrees appeared to wear on Michigan State.

The Spartans QB Cook had a good first half completing eight passes that were 15 yards or longer and that was the most Oregon has allowed in the last 4 years. However, in the second half had one such completion on 3 attempts. For the game Cook were 29 of 47 for 343 yards and 2 TDs.

The game changing play was when early in the 3rd when QB Mariota spotted receiver Royce 10 yards ahead of him that went for 17 yards and a TD. From that point the game was all Oregon’s. Now the Spartan fans who Bet on College at their Online Sportsbook can watch for this games effect on Michigan State Spartans 1-1 odds against their in state rival Eastern Michigan Eagles 1-1 on the 20th of Sept. While their opponent Oregon Ducks 2-0 play the Wyoming Cowboys 2-0 the 13th of Sept. with the opening odds for Oregon at 43 ½.

Oklahoma Sooners Ease By Tulsa Golden Hurricane

The No. 4 Oklahoma Sooners played the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday and Oklahoma was favored at -23 and the Sooners had no problems covering the spread as they scored double figures in all quarters except the 4th in which they scored only 7 points which is the same number of points Tulsa scored for the game as Oklahoma won 52-7.

They say that the Sooners can get the best out of receiver Shepard as last NCAA Football season he had career high yards and reception and in this game he set his new career high of 177 yards on 8 catches, and scored a TD. Starting QB Knight for Oklahoma was 21 of 34 for 299 yards and 2 TDs and he also scored a TD running.

The Tulsa QB Evans was 23 of 43 for 204 yards and a TD with 2 interceptions that in all games is costly. WR Lucas caught 10 passes for 84 yards and scored the only TD of the game for the Golden Hurricanes.

Surprising on 1st downs the Sooners had 26 and Tulsa had but had a big difference in Total yardage with 580 for Oklahoma and 328 for the Golden Hurricanes and the Tulsa turned the ball over some 4 times and lost a fumble. The big difference in game NCAA Football statistics apart from total offensive yardage was total rushing yardage with the Sooners having 261 yards with 8.4 yards per rush on the ground while Tulsa and 94 averaging 2.8 yards per carry.

So Tulsa fans, if you bet on college football at the online sportsbook get ready for the odds on the next game as Tulsa 1-1 plays the Florida Atlantic Owls 0-2 on the 13th of Sept. and for the fans of # 4 Oklahoma 2-0 who play the Tennessee Volunteers 2-0 on the 20th of Sept.13th on ABC TV with the Sooners opening odds at -21.

Auburn Tigers Overwhelm San Jose State Spartans

The No. 5 Auburn Tigers on Saturday the 6th of September was favored at -29 over unranked San Jose State Spartans as the Tigers overwhelmed the Spartans 59-13.

Auburn has a new RB in Artis-Payne and he had a great game against the Spartans as he rushed for 112 yards and 3 TDs in the game which was half of the 6 TDs scored by Auburn as the team amassed some 358 yards offensively. Tigers QB Marshall also rushed for 103 yards, with 27 yards being a TD run in the 3rd quarter. In the passing NCAA Football game he was 10 of 19 for 101 yards, one TD and no interceptions.

Meanwhile the Spartans QB Jurich threw a 75 yard TD pass to Ervin in the 1st quarter and had two first half interceptions. Overall he was 16 of 27 for 218 yards, and then left the game injured in the 4th quarter. Their WR Ervin had 4 catches for some 76 yards and 1 TD.

The game statistics more or less predict the outcome as Auburn had 493 Total yards, 358 yards rushing and 10 of 14 on 3rd down conversions, to San Jose State’s 319 Total yards and 65 yards rushing and 7 of 19 on 3rd down conversions.

Auburn extended its school record of this being the 12th consecutive victory with the team scoring a minimum of 30 points. So football fans, if you Bet on College football at an Online sportsbook watch for the upcoming odd as the No.5 Auburn Tigers 2-0 on Thursday Sept.18 play the #19 Kansas State Wildcats in Kansas 2-0 and the Spartans 1-1 plays the Minnesota Gophers on the 20th of Sept. 2014.
