Ohio Bobcats vs. Penn State Nittany Lions NCAAF Odds (09-10-2022)

The Ohio Bobcats were the model of consistency under Frank Solich. Since 2009 Ohio has never had a losing season. And they produced bowl games and ran at the MAC Championship. Although there were no conference titles, the program was consistently on the preseason shortlist of betting on College Football contenders. Last year Solich retired. And the Bobcats fell to a substandard 3-9 season. It was the worst Ohio season since 2003. But head coach Tim Albin and staff had some positives in that tough first season. Several close losses could have gone the other way.

Ohio Bobcats Team Overview

The Ohio Bobcats are coming off a 41-38 home win over the Florida Atlantic Owls as 6-point dogs. Additionally, the game went over the total of 50.5. With all the previous success Ohio showed, the program isn’t ready to surrender because Frank Solich retired. There’s still a good starting 22 in the lineup. Still, Ohio brings high expectations to be good enough for a championship in the MAC. However, there wasn’t enough done through the transfer portal. Thus, depth is a bit concerning.

Penn State Nittany Lions Team Overview

Last week the Penn State Nittany Lions earned a 35-31 win at the Purdue Boilermakers as 3.5-point road favorites. The game went over the total of 53.5. PSU QB Sean Clifford engineered a clutch and masterful final drive. It may have saved Penn State’s conference title hopes. To illustrate, the sixth-year quarterback hooked up with Keyvone Lee on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 57 seconds left. The play rallied the Nittany Lions to a thrilling victory in their season opener at Purdue.

It was a wild ride kind of night for Clifford. He narrowly escaped a right leg injury in the first half. And then he dealt with cramps in the second half. Thus, he missed the third quarter. The Nittany Lions appeared to be in control by hooking up with Brenton Strange on a 67-yard score with 2 seconds left in the first half. Accordingly, that gave the Nittany Lions a 21-10 lead.

But Clifford didn’t complete a pass after returning in the third quarter. And then almost gave the game away when he was intercepted by Chris Jefferson, who returned the errant pass 72 yards for a touchdown. That play gave the Boilermakers a 31-28 lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Finally, Clifford came through in the clutch to give Penn State its 10th straight win in the series. Clifford finished 20 of 37 with 282 yards and four scores. Clifford may have averted a quarterback controversy with his late heroics. Last season, the ground game averaged 3.2 yards per carry. And it generated just 3.1 on Thursday.
