Still, New Mexico can immediately utilize a few parts to make a difference. The defense needs a total overhaul. But the offense that was beyond miserable is about to get a shot in the arm with two key gets from UAB.
Consider the New Mexico schedule would be a guaranteed winner for just about anyone else. And there are just enough good parts to work around. Strengths are the kicking game, the veteran O line, and a few good defensive playmakers still on campus.

At the onset of 2022, the Aggies started as a top-10 team. But they slumped to a disappointing 5-7 record as one of the nation’s biggest underachievers. However, hiring former Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino to take offensive play-calling duties could jumpstart the program. Specifically, the Aggies have the talent to rebound quickly into the top 25.
Consider that Petrino inherits a rising star at quarterback in Conner Weigman. And he has a trio of receivers that’s as good as any team in the SEC. Five-star freshman Rueben Owens will help fill the void left by Devon Achane at running back. In addition to the overall development by Petrino, the Aggies need the offensive line to improve.
