2023 Michigan Wolverines Preview
Previously, when he was forced to take a pay cut, Harbaugh vowed he was betting on himself. Two online betting blowout wins over Ohio State and Big Ten championships followed. As did berths in the College Football Playoff. Now the Maize and Blue are aiming for all the marbles in 2023.
Ohio State and Penn State are contenders for the CFB Playoff. But the College Football Betting path to a Big Ten title once again runs through Ann Arbor in 2023. Michigan has made steady gains under coach Jim Harbaugh over the last two seasons. Next, the goal is elevated to a trip to the national championship game.
Concurrently, Harbaugh returns the pieces to contend for it all this year. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy is the conference’s No. 1 signal-caller. Also, the backfield features a dynamic one-two punch of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards. The defense held opponents to 16.1 points a game last year and brought back six starters this fall.
The Wolverines don’t get the break of playing Northwestern in 2023. Assuming the Cats won’t bounce back too much from a brutal last few years. However, that’s the only thing to complain about in cross-division games.
Avoiding Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa from the West should help the cause. But that means they have to play Minnesota. The showdown for the Little Brown Jug is on the road. So too, is a sneaky-dangerous date with Nebraska. They have a 2022 Big Ten Championship rematch against Purdue. But that’s at home following a week off.
Also, it is not like the Wolverines are pushing themselves in non-conference play against East Carolina, UNLV, and Bowling Green. Everyone else in the Big Ten has a game outside of the conference against a Power Five team. Combine that with the Big Ten opener at home against Rutgers. In turn, they should be fully jelled by the time the conference slate kicks in full force.
To summarize, Michigan should be the favorite to win the Big Ten and reach the College Football Playoff for the third consecutive season. The offense will be just as physical and dangerous on the ground. At the same time, the defense should be just as strong, if not better. UM gets Ohio State in Ann Arbor. Accordingly, the road is paved for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines to continue their recent Big Ten dominance.
