At the onset of the 2025 season is a strong belief that Boise State can be more than it has been over the past few seasons. Indeed, Boise State was the NCAAF future odds class of the Group of 5 in 2024. The Broncos rode a Heisman finalist to heights not seen for more than a decade. The Broncos lost only to the eventual Big Ten champion, Oregon, in the regular season. Subsequently, it took a couple of return touchdowns for the Ducks to win. And only a poor start held them back against Penn State in the CFP.

Cause of the offshore betting realities of big-money college football, the days of the Boise State Broncos could be over. The transfer portal, NIL, and potential other player compensation are not something that Boise State can realistically keep up with.
Boise State alum and former player Andy Avalos was not the solution as head coach. Consider he was fired after a 5-5 start to the 2023 season. Spencer Danielson took over and finished 3-1. Including victories in the Mountain West championship game and the LA Bowl. Hence, boosting his credibility for the full-time position. Danielson has been committed to fostering a Boise State culture comprised of dedicated players who prioritize hard work over material gain. At the Group of Five level, his dream has a real chance to become a reality.
Although running back Ashton Jeanty will be missed, Boise State remains the 2025 college football futures team to beat in the Mountain West. Also, they are among the programs in the Group of 5 conferences for a spot in the CFP this year.
One positive for Boise State when it comes to missing Hawaii is not having to make that long trip. However, that wouldn’t even be a factor this year, as they will have already gone to Honolulu in 2024. So, too, does that go for Wyoming. The Broncos had to deal with the dangerous date at Laramie last season. Thus, it would’ve been a home game this time around. Missing San Jose State, now under Ken Niumatalolo, is a plus.
The Broncos don’t have a horrible travel schedule after the first five games. Four of the next six games are at home, followed by a winnable date at Utah State. If you’re going to go on the road, Air Force, Nevada, and San Diego State – all three will be better. However, those were three of the four worst teams in the Mountain West last season.
Boise State does need a few things to go its way, personnel-wise. But it’ll be tough to go better than 10-2. USF is more than just a danger. Of course, the Notre Dame trip is likely to result in a loss, and there will be a miss somewhere else. For anyone else, it’ll be a great year. Boise State isn’t just anyone.
