Iowa State Cyclones

Iowa State finished strong on the football field even as they lost betting on college football value.  For example, the Cyclones won three of their final four games straight up but failed to get the money in their final four games.  Iowa State is 8-4 straight up, 6-6 vs. the odds, and 4-7-1 under the total.  In like manner the Cyclones finished 6-3 in the Big 12 and finished in third place.  Iowa State ranked 82nd in the nation for scoring offense and 36th for points allowed.

Washington State Cougars

Washington State produced the program’s best season since 2003.  Indeed, the Cougars have an offshore betting record of 10-2 both straight up and vs. the spread with 7-5 over the total.  In contrast to the success was a poor finish in the season finale.  Wazzu lost at home to Washington 28-15 to blow the Apple Cup and the Pac 12 North Division title.  Encompassing Washington State’s success is an offense that ranked 15th in the country for scoring.  Most important of all was a defense that ranked 29th in the nation.  Wazzu’s improved defense has impressed all.

Stats to Consider

Namely Washington State quarterback Garner Minshew triggered the nation’s top ranked passing attack.  Minshew threw for 4477 yards passing with 36 touchdown passes.  At the same time his passer rating was 148.4.  Counter to that is the strong play of ISU quarterback Brock Purdy.  To begin with Purdy had a 172.7 rating with 16 touchdown passes.  Additionally, David Montgomery ran for 1092 yards.

Team vs. Team

Washington State has improved as a road favorite wagering value recently.  As an example, the Cougars have paid in four of their last five laying points away from home.  Three of their last five in that situation have gone under the total.  Along the same lines Iowa State has been a tremendous betting value as an away dog.  In fact, the Cyclones have lost just two of their last 13 vs. the odds when getting points on the road.  Eight of their last 12 in that role have gone over the total.

Matchup to Watch

As mentioned earlier Iowa State has a strong betting on college football Matchup advantage as a road dog.  As well as the fact that they have a balanced offense that will keep Wazzu’s defense honest.
