The Toledo Rockets are eight-point NCAA football betting favorites to beat the Appalachian State Mountaineers in the 2017 Dollar General Bowl. In doing so, they’d be exacting a measure of revenge on App State, who defeated Toledo in the 2016 Camellia Bowl. That was the first time Mountaineers have won consecutive bowl games. Toledo head coach Jason Candle also hopes to stick to people who say there are too many bowls, telling them to “watch some bad basketball.” Hey, what do the Lakers have to do with any of this? But he’s right; bowls are a good thing. Well, maybe not the Dust Bowl. Though it did give us The Grapes of Wrath.

The Mountaineers have allowed opponents just 21 points per game. They have also allowed just 30 points in their last three games combined. Quarterback Taylor Lamb and defensive back Tae Hayes were named to the second team. Defensive end Caleb Fuller, linebacker Devan Stringer and safety A.J. Howard made the third team.
In spite of the Mountaineers defensive prowess, the total has gone over in three of Appalachian State’s last four games in December. Also, The Mountaineers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after an ATS win and 5-1 against the NCAA football betting spread in their last six games after allowing fewer than 20 points in their previous game.

Now they have Terry Swanson, who has rushed for 466 yards in the last three games. Meanwhile, quarterback Logan Woodside has thrown eight touchdowns in the same stretch. Additionally, as Coach Candle put it, “These kids, they lay it on the line, they put it out there for 12 calendar months and they go above and beyond. To have a bowl game is a reward for a great season.” and that goes for the 2017 Dollar General Bowl.
Toledo is 6-2 ATS in the last eight games, 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games playing Sun-Belt teams and 6-2 against the NCAA football betting spread in the last eight games overall.
