Gophers Battle Badgers for Axe in Bet on College Football Finale

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Wisconsin Badgers

On the whole last week’s Wisconsin win may go down as among the most important in recent history.  Granted the Badgers will not make the Big Ten title game but they finally showed their famed resiliency last week at Purdue.  Fashion their rally from a 27-13 fourth quarter deficit.  Along the same lines the triple overtime win gave Badger fans respite from a disappointing season.  At the same time Minnesota has had a lackluster bet on College Football campaign.  To be exact PJ Fleck’s team is wildly inconsistent.  Not enough quality players are available to “Row the Boat.”

Minnesota Golden Gophers

Minnesota limps into Camp Randall with a record of 5-6 straight up and 6-5 against the board.  And six of their games have gone over the total.  Last Saturday the Golden Gophers lost at home to Northwestern 24-14.  Due to mediocre metrics does Minnesota’s misery become understandable.  The Golden Gophers rank 81st in the country for total offense.  It follows that their defense ranks 80th for points allowed.  Fleck arrived to Minnesota with much fanfare.  Yet beyond the gimmicks and slogans real progress has been fleeting.

Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin enters Senior Day with a much-improved frame of mind.  Last week’s 47-44 win at Purdue showed tremendous character.  Indeed, many teams would have collapsed or quit in similar circumstances.  More emphatically Jonathan Taylor stole the show for the Badgers.  Consider his 321 yards and three touchdowns in the win.  As a matter of fact, Taylor’s 17-yard TD run in overtime was the clincher.  Wisky is now 7-4 straight up but 3-8 vs. the odds.  Six Badger games went over the number.  Summing up UW ranks 34th nationally for offense and 43rd for defense.

Stats to Consider

Minnesota has been a weak bet on College Football value in road games.  To illuminate the Golden Gophers have paid in just two of their last 11 matchups away from home.  Just two of their last 10 road tilts have gone under the total.  In the same way Wisconsin has dropped in value in home games lately.  Bucky Badger has covered just one of their last six games at Camp Randall Stadium.

Team vs. Team

Head to Head Wisconsin has had the recent sportsbook advantage with Minnesota.  Consequently, the Golden Gophers have come up empty vs. the line in their last three games with the Badgers.  Just three of the last 18 games in this series have stayed under the number.  So too has Minnesota struggled at Camp Randall Stadium.  On the while the Gophers have come away with the money in just three of their last nine visits to Wisconsin.  Furthermore this series has gone over the total nine straight times at The Camp.

Matchup to Watch

In view of Minnesota’s subpar rankings in all categories do they have a matchup disadvantage.  Furthermore, Wisconsin should be rejuvenated after last week’s gutty comeback.  And in Taylor they have the ultimate Bet on College Football asset on the field Saturday.
