But he’s a bona fide NFL prospect. Rattler brings a deep arm. And he has the attitude to show the world that he’s ready to be the Heisman Trophy favorite that he was in 2021. Consider that South Carolina gets a 70% passer who threw 40 touchdown passes and 12 picks at a big-time level.
Spencer Rattler was a phenomenal freshman and Heisman Trophy front-runner entering last season. But he lost his job at OU due to too many turnovers and missed assignments. Thus, Rattler decided on a fresh start under a coach with whom he already had a relationship.
Last year the South Carolina offense finished 13th in passing, 11th in rushing, and 13th in scoring in the SEC. Rattler’s mobility and NFL arm provide a new dimension to the Gamecocks.
In turn, the Gamecocks return their entire offensive line. On the other hand, that line produced just six 100-yard rushing games in 13 tries. And that was with 2020 SEC leading rusher Kevin Harris.
