Florida State Survives Tough Battle Against NC State

In Week 4 of the NCAA FB season, the #2 Oregon, #3 Alabama and #4 Oklahoma teams were all on bye weeks, so we will recap the #1 Florida State, #5 Auburn and the # 6 Texas A&M games. Let’s start with the Florida State Seminoles in this article.

The No. 1 Florida State Seminoles 4-0, 2-0 ACC (1st ACC Atlantic) beat the unranked North Carolina Wolfpack 4-1, 0-1 ACC (4th ACC Atlantic) 56-41 at the Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina and the game was seen on ABC/ESPN TV.

The Seminoles who were favored at -19 with the O/U 58, had to rally from 17 down in the first quarter with the return of QB Winston from a 1 game suspension, who threw 4 TD’s for 365 yards while being intercepted twice. They beat the Wolfpack Saturday afternoon extending the nations college football longest active winning streak to 20 games. In the game FSU did win, with a big margin and they didn’t appear to be like the 2013 Seminoles, but they did leave North Carolina with a win and an unblemished record.

The Seminole defense had a tough time in stopping the NC State Wolfpack and their amazing young QB Brissett on top of the Seminoles had three turnovers, of which three were from Winston and that match their season total to date.

However, Winston was able to orchestrate 4 second half TD’s that finally got the reigning champion Seminoles back in control of the game. Their receiver Green caught 11 passes for 125 yards and scored the TD that put the Seminoles on top while RB Williams rushed for three TD’s the last at 2:07 left in the game and sealed the win.

In this game both teams amassed over 500 yards on offense, and in a stadium where two years ago they suffered their last ACC loss. The Seminoles had 531 yards of offense with 166 rushing and 365 passing with 4 turnovers while the Wolfpack had 520 yards offense with 161 rushing and 359 passing with 2 turnovers, statistically it was a closer game than the final score indicated.

Florida State was a team that rarely played from behind in 2013, but this season they already trailed for more minutes than they did all of the 2013 season. For example, in all of the 2013 games the Seminoles trailed for only 29:48 minutes, and thus far after only 4 games they have trailed for 50:51 minutes.

NC State’s QB Brissett, a Florida Gator transfer passed for 359 yards and 3 TD and turned the game into a quarterback duel with FSU QB Winston. The Wolfpack with QB Brissett and playing against the nation’s No. 1 ranked team actually led 24-7 at the end of the 1st quarter and 38-28 through midway of the 3rd quarter after RB Thorton had a 10 yard rushing TD for the Wolfpack. In the NC State next series QB Brissett fumbled the ball and FSU recovered and FSU QB Winston capitalized by throwing to receiver RB Green for a TD and a 42-38 lead late in the 3rd quarter. Then in the fourth FSU RB Green scored on a 1 yard run and a 49-38 lead early in the 4th quarter.

This was a very disappointing game for the Wolfpack, needless to say and it was the 1st time in FSU football history that their team gave up 24 points in the 1st quarter, even as the Seminole closed the score gap to 24-21 at halftime. With the win, it was the 17th consecutive win against ACC opponents.

So FSU fans who bet on college FB at a online sportsbook next Saturday October 4 the Seminoles 4-0 (1st ACC Atlantic) play the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 2-3 (4th ACC Atlantic) in Tallahassee so watch for the upcoming betting odds as well as the Week #6 Top AP rankings.
