Although there was a lot of laughter about Arizona State’s coaching change last year nobody is laughing much today. Especially after the Sun Devils 49-7 payout last week over UTSA. In short Herm Edwards debut could not have gone better. By contrast Michigan State had a near death week one experience. Summing up Sparty beat Utah State 38-31. Yet they have had a chance at covering the 23.5-point line. Likewise, MSU trailed 31-30 with under five minutes to go. Above all it was an alarming bet on College Football experience. Concurrently it was a stark wakeup call.

Of course, there was legitimate concern about the hiring of Herm Edwards at Arizona State. Since Edwards had not coached in college for over 20 years it caused derision. Further, he had not coached in the NFL for a number of years after getting fired by Kansas City. More emphatically Edwards was known more as a television personality. Commencing with his hire conventional wisdom called it insanity. Yet now it could prove to be a bet on College Football contrarian success. Increasingly Edwards charisma is being seen as a potential asset. Likewise, he appears to have won over the players.

Certainly, last week’s ASU cover has garnered plenty of attention. Starting with the Sun Devils 503-220 total yards advantage. Quarterback Manny Wilkins passed for 16/24, 237 yards and four touchdowns. Furthermore, N’Keal Harry caught six passes for 140 yards and two scores. Additionally, Eno Benjamin ran for 131 yards and a TD on 16 carries. The Sun Devils defense forced three turnovers. Owing to this performance new optimism has arrived at Tempe.
Michigan State Spartans
In contrast was Michigan State’s performance. More emphatically the Spartans close call was no accident. Nine penalties and two turnovers kept Utah State in the game. In fact, the Aggies held a 25-23 first down advantage. Consistent with their performance MSU was lit up for 319 yards passing. At the same time Michigan State quarterback Brian Lewerke came up clutch. Most of all he engineered the winning comeback drive to save the game. Overall Lewerke threw for 287 yards and two touchdowns.
Team vs. Team
Michigan State has been a poor sportsbook betting value on the road. To be exact Sparty has lost seven of their last nine vs. the line away from home. Five of their last seven away games went over the total. Contrarily Arizona State has been a strong play at home. To show ASU has paid in five of their last six home games. Three of their last four at Sun Devil Stadium went over the total.
