Since the firing of favorite son Ruffin McNeill as coach in 2015, East Carolina paid a horrible price. McNeil led his alma mater to four bowl games in six seasons. But he was the victim of a trigger-happy athletic director eager to put his own stamp on the program. Ironically McNeill led the Pirates to their last College Football odds bowl berth in 2014. However, the Pirates are finally bowl-eligible again. Second-year coach Mike Houston is leading a turnaround at ECU. At the onset, Houston inherited a gutted-out program. But he’s quickly found his way.
