Can Ole Miss Beat 2025 College Football Future Market Expectations?

Can Ole Miss Beat 2025 College Football Future Market Expectations

Namely, Lane Kiffin has earned the moniker “King of the Portal” with plenty of justification. Kiffin has become the master of getting players from other schools to transfer into his program. Ole Miss will have as much NCAAF future odds talent as almost any team it faces in 2025. Last year, the Ole Miss Rebels compiled a double-digit win season for the third time in four years. Head coach Lane Kiffin has led Ole Miss to bowl games in all five of his seasons, and the Rebels cracked the Top Ten for a final ranking in 2023, the first time since 2015.

Recently, the sports betting campaigns have been the only two Top Ten finishes for Ole Miss since 1969, when Archie Manning was the QB. In the Kiffin era, expectations are at an all-time high for Ole Miss. Correlate that with the retirement of Alabama coach Nick Saban, and Ole Miss is hoping to fill that void and become a serious and consistent SEC contender.

Considering the loaded roster, preseason expectations, and favorable schedule, the 2024 season was a missed opportunity for Ole Miss. However, the 2025 college football futures news wasn’t all bad for coach Lane Kiffin last year. The Rebels won at least 10 games for the third time in four years and are 21-5 over the last two seasons.

Kiffin is facing a massive rebuild on both sides of the ball. But the “Portal King” should keep this program near the top of the SEC. Rising star quarterback Austin Simmons is a big reason for optimism. Hence, Kiffin reloaded a receiving corps hit hard by departures through the portal. How Simmons develops behind a rebuilt offensive line could decide just how high this team climbs in the SEC.

In like manner to the offense, Kiffin is facing a major rebuild on defense. Coordinator Pete Golding has elevated the Ole Miss defense over the last two years. Yet only two starters are back for ‘25. Expect transfers Princewill Umanmielen and Da’Shawn Womack to speed up the rebuilding process up front. TJ Dottery and Suntarine Perkins are back to anchor a strong second level. However, concerns remain in the secondary entering fall practice.

When looking at 2025, the team isn’t as good as the 2024 version. Still, the final result might be stronger. Of great concern is the timing. It would have been great if the Rebels had a few more warm-up games, such as playing The Citadel in early September instead of November. Cause by the SEC opener at Kentucky is in Week 2. Everything has to be locked and loaded right away.

Of course, it’s the SEC, but there’s no Alabama or Texas to deal with. Additionally, there’s no Auburn, Missouri, Tennessee, or Texas A&M, either. Of course, the road game at Georgia is a problem. And the date at Oklahoma is a big deal. While everything else to worry about—LSU, South Carolina, Florida—is in Oxford.
