Following the retirement of Alabama coach Nick Saban, there is a sense that Georgia can establish a new SEC dynasty. In 2025, Georgia boasts one of the most talented and deepest rosters in the country. Also, it returns some of the sport’s top players at premium positions. Additionally, there is no pressure to protect an NCAAF future odds title. To his credit, head coach Kirby Smart has finally made Georgia what it has always aspired to be. There was a sense that the Georgia Bulldogs football program was capable of more than it was delivering.

Previously, Georgia won only two sportsbook national championships (1942 and 1980) before Kirby Smart arrived to lead his alma mater to glory. Smart led UGA to the 2021 and 2022 national championships. In 2023, Georgia was positioned to achieve its first 3-peat since Minnesota in the 1930s. However, the Bulldogs were upset by Alabama in the SEC championship game, which ruined their season and bid for a three-peat.
One area of concern in 2025 college football futures is the Georgia culture under Smart, where perpetual traffic violations have served to terrorize Athens and have caused the loss of life. By all accounts, Smart has tried to address the issue, but with no success. As a result, the reputation of his program has suffered a significant setback. Finally, many believe that the Life in the Fast Lane culture has led to worse results on the field.
The Bulldogs return only seven starters and have a few more preseason question marks than usual under coach Kirby Smart. However, don’t expect that to slow down Georgia, as Smart’s program should be in the mix to win it all once again.
The biggest concerns for Georgia rest on offense. New quarterback Gunner Stockton flashed potential (but also plenty to work on) in limited snaps last season. Now, the junior must prove he can handle the No. 1 role for a full season.
Also, the Bulldogs must replace four starters up front and spark a rushing attack that ranked No. 15 in the SEC last fall. Transfers Noah Thomas (Texas A&M) and Zachariah Branch (USC). Additionally, with the return of Colbie Young, Georgia’s receiving corps should transform back into one of the best in the SEC after an inconsistent ‘24.
In turn, Smart’s defense only brings back three starters. But this unit will rank among the best in college football once again. CJ Allen and Raylen Wilson headline a deep linebacker unit. At the same time, Christen Miller and Jordan Hall anchor the defensive line. Smart and coordinator Glenn Schumann must navigate some turnover on the back end. And that could be mixing and matching deep into fall practice. Safety KJ Bolden is the next star in the secondary.
This is the best team in college football again. Last year’s team was actually young. It boasts a pipeline of four- and five-star players who continue to rise. Correlate another impressive rotation of running backs, a strong group of defensive linemen, a solid offensive line, and a talented corner tandem.
