Betting on NCAA Football: Wisconsin Badgers vs. Penn State Nittany Lions

Wisconsin Badgers vs. Penn State Nittany Lions

At the onset of the 2018 college football season Wisconsin and Penn State were tabbed as top tier contenders.  In view of where things stand now this season has become a major disappointment.  Penn State has suffered a rapid decline in betting on NCAA Football value.  While Wisconsin has turned into one of the least profitable teams on the college football board.  Starting with last week’s evisceration at the hands of Michigan is discontent growing at State College.  Alternatively, Wisconsin’s lack of explosiveness has emerged as a drag.  Most important of all both teams are fully exposed pretenders.

Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin is 6-3 straight up but just 2-7 against the spread with five overs.  Last week the Badgers beat horrible Rutgers 31-17 as 29-point home overlays.  Indeed, the game was a microcosm of UW’s season.  Even in victory Bucky was lethargic and lackluster.  Commencing with the country’s 111th rated pass attack does Wisconsin’s problems begin.  Overall Wisky ranks 51st for scoring offense and 35th for total defense.  At the beginning of the season UW was tabbed to be a scoring machine.  Yet their veteran lineup has nowhere near matched last season’s production.

Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State is 6-3 straight up but 5-4 vs. the odds with seven games clearing the total.  Last Saturday the Nittany Lions were destroyed at revenge minded Michigan 42-7.  It was the third time in four games that PSU failed to pay.  For one thing the Nits now rank 50th for total offense and 59th for defense.  Head coach James Franklin is drawing ever increasing heat for the mediocre look.  Specifically, his rant after the Ohio State loss has proven absurd.

Stats to Consider

Wisconsin has been a solid Betting on NCAA Football road dog in recent games.  To show the Badgers have covered the number in five of their last eight getting points away from home.  Three of their last four in that role have gone under the total.  Counter to that is Penn State’s current loss of value as a home chalk.  The Nittany Lions have covered just two of their last six laying the lumber at Beaver Stadium.  And four of their last five in that situation have gone over the total.

Team vs. Team

Penn State has had the offshore bookmaker advantage in this head to head series.  To illustrate the Nittany Lions have paid in five of their last six against the Badgers.  Wisky and PSU have gone over the total in their last five consecutive meetings.  Furthermore, the Nits have owned Bucky Badger at Beaver Stadium.  Wisconsin has come away with empty pockets in their last three visits to Penn State.  Two of those three games went under the total.

Matchup to Watch

As was previously noted Penn State owns Wisconsin at home in this Betting on NCAA Football matchup.  Beyond that they have far and away the superior quarterback in Trace McSorely.
