Betting on NCAA Football: Oklahoma Sooners vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Oklahoma has shown rapid improvement on defense since the firing of Mike Stoops.  Indeed, the unit had its best game of the season last week.  The Sooners scored an easy 51-14 home payout over Kansas State to stay in the hunt for the Big 12 title.  Equally important is the play of quarterback Kyler Murray.  Most of all only Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa would rate higher for the Heisman Trophy.  As a result, Oklahoma is again a popular betting on NCAA Football choice.  Meanwhile Texas Tech is coming off a disappointing 31-40 loss at Iowa State.

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Texas Tech is 5-3 both straight up and vs. the line with six of their games going over the total.  Last week’s loss at Iowa State was particularly frustrating in that it showed once again the Red Raiders inconsistency.  Head coach Kliff Kingsbury has yet to turn Tech into a reliable team on the field and at the betting window.  After nearly getting fired last year he has led moderate improvement.  Despite the fact Tech is one win away from a bowl, their defense remains bad.  The Red Raiders rank 92nd in the country in that category.

Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma is 7-1 straight up and 4-4 with the odds.  Overall the Sooners have gone over the total seven times.  Oklahoma owns the nation’s fourth ranked total and scoring offense.  Balanced against that is an improving defense that still ranks 58th in the country.  Quarterback Kyler Murray has an insane 227.3 rating with 28 touchdowns and just three interceptions.

Stats to Consider

Oklahoma has struggled with betting on NCAA Football value on the road recently.  For example, the Sooners have covered just four of their last 10 games away from home.  Five of their last six away games have gone over the total.  Balanced against that is Texas Tech’s lack of profits when playing at home as a dog.  In fact, the Red Raiders have covered the number in just three of their last eight games as a pup at Jones AT&T Stadium.  Three of their last four in that situation went under the total.

Team vs. Team

Oklahoma has had the offshore bookmaker advantage in their series with Texas Tech. In fact, the Sooners have paid in four of their last six games with Tech.  OU also won all six games straight up.  Six of the last seven between these teams went over the total.  However, the Red Raiders have controlled the Cashier’s Cage at Jones AT&T Stadium vs. Oklahoma.  Texas Tech got the money in four of their last five home games against the Sooners.  Following that the last three meetings in this series at Lubbock have gone over the total.

Matchup to Watch

Immediately apparent is the matchup edge of Kyler Murray against the Texas Tech defense.  On the other hand, the Sooners defense will face a strong Betting on NCAA Football test.   Tech ranks third in the country for passing yardage.  By reason of new defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeil does OU figure to succeed.
