Last season, at the end, the North Carolina Tar Heels parted ways with elderly legend Mack Brown. Correlate that Brown ran out of gas and lacked the financial support of donors, which will now be given to Belichick. Will it work? Gamblers can find opinions from all points of the spectrum. One NCAAF future odds factor that everyone can agree on is that the Hoodie will rate alongside Colorado’s Deion Sanders in terms of box office, TV eyeballs, and betting activity. Of course, Belichick was blown off by the most desperate of NFL teams.

Due to his sports betting reputation as an insufferable bore, Bill Belichick found himself in a hopeless situation. The infamous Hoodie is taking his Super Bowl rings and a girlfriend young enough to be his granddaughter to the University of North Carolina.
Mack Brown’s second coming as head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels was an overall success. In sum, Brown produced six bowl games in six seasons and led the Tar Heels to a final ranking of 13th in 2020. Yet there was a sense of unfulfillment among the North Carolina faithful. Brown’s offense helped former QBs Sam Howell and Drake Maye set records. But North Carolina left the back door open far too often with a defense that ranked among the worst in college football. Defensive coordinator Gene Chizik was sent packing after a putrid 2023 performance. Yet the results after his departure did not move the needle.
Now, all 2025 college football futures eyes in college football will be on Chapel Hill this season, thanks to Bill Belichick’s arrival. The main problems are Belichick’s lack of collegiate experience (especially in the portal and NIL era) and his strategic ability to get the most out of the roster.
Also, the 73-year-old coach reshaped the roster through the portal by bringing in over 40 transfers. Most important of all, Belichick has a favorable schedule for his debut in Carolina Blue.
When you combine the coaching change and significant roster turnover, this team is full of unknowns entering ‘25. One of the few certainties is likely to be at quarterback with South Alabama transfer Gio Lopez. At the same time, there are three starters back up front. The Tar Heels will miss running back Omarion Hampton. Transfers must emerge at the receiver position to take the pressure off of Kobe Paysour.
The unknown theme continues on defense. Belichick’s ability to get the most out of the roster should shine here. Especially as the Tar Heels bring back only two starters and are counting on a handful of transfers to make an instant impact.
Certainly, Bill Belichick couldn’t be handed a nicer schedule. There are still too many holes to rip through this slate. But the Tar Heels should win more than their share of road games. And then they don’t have too many problems at home.
